Hey guys, I thought that it would be fun to hear your thoughts on the 10 most popular coin series to collect. Share you list below of what coins You think are the most popular with coin collectors. -Fred
I think Lincoln Cents and Morgan Dollars are the top 2. Other favorites in NO particular order are: Walking Liberty Halves, Mercury Dimes, Peace Dollars, SLQ's, State Quarters Bust Halves, Franklin Halves... I'll leave it to someone else to try to rank each of them.
1. Small Cents 2. Morgans 3. Buffalo Nickels 4. Barber Halfs 5. Jefferson Nickels 6. Half Dimes 7. Half Cents 8. Standing Liberty Quarters 9.Walking Halfs 10. Mint Sets
I would have to rank them like this.:computer: 1. American Siver Eagles 2. Peace Dollars 3. Morgan Dollars 4. Franklin Halfs 5. Kennedy Halfs 6. State Quarters 7. Silver Panda's 8. U.S. Proof Sets 9. U.S. Mint Sets 10. Lincoln Cent CC
Been there, done this before. Morgans, Lincolns and quarters are 1, 2, & 3 with some dispute as to their order depending on what criteria you use. If I remember correctly, Buffaloes and Jeffersons come up behind those, but way behind.
Since there are only 13 different US types to collect (excluding gold which nobody seems to be including here) I think the task is to name the three least popular. With that in mind, and since you didn't specify ordering the ten in popularity, I would say the ten most popular are everything but Twenty Cent Pieces, Half Dimes and Two Cent Pieces. The Two and Twenty Cent Pieces were never even popular enough to get their own names.
Not sure how popular they are but my interests are: 1. Lincolns 2. IHC's 3. And whatever Pre 1950 coin that catches my attention and I can purchase for a fair price.
I say Lincolns are #1 just because they are so inexpensive besides some key dates. Also, I think Lincoln is a lot of people's favorite president.
My List!! 1) Roosevelts 2) Lincoln's 3) Jefferson War Nickels 4) Kennedy's 5) Proof Sets 6) Mint Sets 7) Half-Dollar Commemoratives 8) 2-Cent Pieces 9) Norway Coins (Working on a type set) 10) Canada Commemoratives
You'd be amazed at all the comments I get......" All you sell is Pennys ?" " BUT, I have the busiest table at 5 out of 10 shows.....it goes in trends, but the small cent folks are out in force. Some shows are sloooooowwwww, some I can't keep up. The checklist collectors are my bread and butter, they are filling those holes, and the most popular grades are a vg/f and then the XF/AU guys. Rlm and I stocked up on all these 65-66-67 Bu's and they dont draw much attention, but all it takes is one collector, he'll buy 6 or 7 at a time tho. I will expand, but at my own pace. Lincolns will ALWAYS be my forte'
Show me a Peace dollar thats as eye appealing as a DMPL-65 80-s Morgan, for triple the $$$$$$ even. You'll get more eye appeal for your $$ with the Morgan, but you''ll get more rarity with the Peace. It is apples and oranges. Can't compare just generically across the board.
lets compare them anyway. They melted the Morgans to make the peace dollars so there should be something common about them worth comparing. Ruben
