I have this 1959d nothing special about it I was just going to get some off you Guy's opinion. I'm trying to go through my coins I'm trying to build a set. I no they are probably a lot better 1959d then this one but I was wondering if any body would youse a coin looking like this in their collection it's not to bad it could be better. But at the time it's the better coin I have for this and mint don't want to send it back out to change over for other change I was just curious about it if it was a keeper or not thanks again Guy's.

It's a keeper until you find one better.

    A few thoughts:

    • As @furham suggests, you can use this as a temporary filler and upgrade it when you find a better one (this is true for any date/mm in your set). Very common to continually visit a date/mm over the years. NOTE: if you use a press folder to hold your coins (e.g., Whitman), the hole will eventually enlarge and not retain a coin.
    • Low-ball sets: some folks create low-ball sets, generally well circulated coins that have a certain look/patina about them that makes them attractive in a different way than say an MS set of shiny red specimens.
    • Environmentally damaged sets: basically I've seen this done (and done one myself) of environmentally damaged coins (in my case, Jefferson's that are dark but have a cameo-like appearance).
    • Circulation sets: coins strictly plucked from circulation (change, found on ground, CRH). These generally are the progressive type like furham suggests: upgrade as you go along. The challenge here is to build a set from the wild...takes time to do, but doable (Jefferson Nickels for sure...maybe Roosevelt dimes, others?).

The thing of it is, you collect what you want and display it as you see fit. No judgment from the community (well...some might make a comment...but whatever). This is your hobby...your collection, so personalize it and have fun!

Thanks a lot Guy's and yeah Kevin that all makes since. I've got a lot of coins that I done know that don't have no value but their is just something about theme that catches my eye like other coins don't mean so much to me. They could be a dark spot in theme and the way it is and shape makes it just cool looking I no it don't have no value. But I am trying to build what I call the the big one it has to be least in the MS condition or it will not go in my Lincoln set. And yeah I am trying to build a Jefferson nickel set but this is going to take some time but I look at it different don't make no since how I want one set off MS condition and the other what ever I can get. But don't get me wrong I do want the better coins no matter what I'm sure every body like that it just makes since. But thanks for advice cause I didn't really know cause I thought I guess every body wants nothing but MS grade in their collection but I'm going to build one just because I like the way they look I done got most off them all ready thanks again Guy's happy hunting.

I don't know what to say but that is the coolest thing I have every seen. Is that on a 1945 wheat Penny does it have the two stalks on the back. And buy the way did you find in a Hunt or just bought it straight out sorry so many questions but I have to ask how in the world did something like that would get made with a 1945 die or master hub or what ever they call that. I really thank you for showing me that never seen one I would love to put that some were in my collection. I don't know exactly were it would fit in at I guess under different kinds off coins maybe good fine. You will have to show me more off you're coins sometimes I love the different types off coins it don't even matter were their from eather cause I love coins.

What year is that and what does that say on the back off it down at the bottom off it. I wish you would have to a picture off the front to it has a nice back piece on it. I've been wanting to ask you have been one off two or three people that has showed me a picture off some wild looking coins and I mean that in a good way. I would pay that for some off these coins I've seen. Guy showed me a coin I believe it was in the 1800 hundreds can't rember for sure what the date was but I think he thought it was a something planchet I believe so he bought this coin I think off eBay almost have of the coin look like it was broke off. I'm trying to break it down for you that way you no what I'm saying. He just posted it a few days a go I believe you might had something to say about it I could be wrong. He calls his self Kentucky but their was a few people like collection but and Paddy man few more trying to figure this coin out. I don't think it was what he thought it was I don't know if they every came up with anything about it or not. But he only give 7 dollars for it I would of give that just because of the age on it plus it would look good in my collection. I guess what I'm really asking is it pretty save and how do you no what you are really getting to you have it in you're hand. That is the part that I worry about I would hate to have some money tied up in a joke coin wear some one took a knife and made it no what I mean. So what do you look at to make you feel like you are getting a good deal. Just like that coin you bought for 5 dollars what if some one put them words in it how Doe's some coins like that anyway get done in the mint department. I can fine a coin in roll hunting that will have these odd looking objects in it me thinking their is no way that could happen out side the mint. The only way something could make a perfect spot in this coin and not even a scratch no were else I mean the rim want even been hit.And I will post these nice coins I mean gem's but they will have this perfect think beat in it and I mean deep in it that tells me this coin has been hit hard and not do nothing else to the coin and they tell me every time it's PMD so what do I post to think when I've seen the same kind's off Marks on some one else's post and it will be a mint damage. But 90percent off the time it will be some one that has been on here for 2 to5 years is that why.Is it because I'm new and I should not no the difference yet cause it should not be that way because people that are new fine things to I could be throwing something really nice away because I'm new and I should not no that stuff yet.I'm just talking now but that is how I feel sometimes but I did not throw none off these coins away they will be put into 2x2 for sure I know I don't know every thing but when you're gut is telling you something ant right that is how I feel now I stay on this site for a couple years I will post these coins again I feel like I just might have something no what I mean friend but I love that coin I just had all off that on my mine hoallar back at me and we will talk if you like have a good day I hope you're coin is a nice one what is the value you on something like that or is it just a cool piece to have in you're collection.

    Tatter,

To make it easier, here is the front and back of that penny together. I enlarged the scrawl at the bottom of the reverse. It is the signature of the artist - SteveOrino.

It was not made by the mint, but is Post Mint "Damage." The guy who signed it carved it. It is called a "Hobo Penny."

    Hope this helps.
