For some reason, large bronze coins of Viminacium appear to be, in terms of dollars per gram, just about the most affordable way to own large Roman bronze with good detail. They are almost always extraordinarily cheap, large, heavy, and wonderful.

Just picked up two more, of Gordian III and Philip I.

Details are nice and they feel great in-hand, rather more dark brown than light.

The Gordie is a little brother to a much larger coin of a previous regnal year. The big one is nice but has odd surfaces that make it impossible to photograph properly.

I remember buying them uncleaned on ebay for less than 5$ each. You can put up a date collection!

They’re so cool since they’re dated and you can easily put together a one per year set for the common emperors like Gordian, Philip, Decius and Gallus!

Do it! They’re like $10 for a decent examples, just about the cheapest way to get a solid chunky coin
