My 2009 Ultra High Relief St Gaudens Double Eagle arrived today. I was NOT happy to find it sitting on my front porch this afternoon because I had requested that it be delivered to my PO box. At least it was not stolen. Anyway, I snapped a couple of photos of the coin. I could not get it out of the capsule so that limited what I could do photographing it. It is a stunning coin. The relief is GREAT!. The obverse is deeply dished. Not sure if that shows in the photo. I was able to compare this coin to a genuine MCMVII Ultra High Relief on display at the ANA's Bass Museum. While the 2009 is a good reproduction of the origina designl it is not completely faithful. But I can (barely) afford the 2009 UHR whereas I could never think of owning an MCMVII UHR. I'll try to get the coin out of the capsule and take some photos that better show the relief. Meanwhile enjoy these photos:
Uhr Today I received a UHR unit. Beautiful presentation . I am not sure how they are going to turn these out in significant numbers. Whoever the vendor is that puts the package together does a fine job. Is it worth 1189.00 I am not sure. When there is something I wanted, or dreamed about when I was young , I use to go to the DeYoung Museum. It seemed to satisfy a lot of interests. I use to browse up and down the halls and became a lifelong visitor. Now with the net and digital photography, there is not much you can not at least look at.
That is one beautiful coin! I think the dishing shows up in the shadowing. What is after "DOLLAR" on the reverse?
Ok, I can see I need to make much more sense and be more clear :hammer: I see the S, I see, what I will call a "ray of sunshine" shooting through the S , there seems to be something bisecting the "ray of sunshine" under the S, running from about 330 to about 120 degrees. Assuming the top of the coin is 0 degrees. Fred
I do not know. I opened it to make sure nothing went astray with the internal package and my wife said lets put it back . So we put it back and away. So sweet , I own one but will never look at it very often if ever.
Thats insane. A $1300.00 coin just left sitting on your step? has the US mint lost their minds? I'm still waiting on the 2 proof Lincoln Commemoratives that were shipped last Friday from the Mint....
In the words of wayne and garth, if she were preseident she would be baberham lincoln. nice coin HOBO.
If its the US Mint, we should worry about my neighbors porch because they will deliver the coins there.
hahahah i hope you have good neighborly relations. its funny but some of my stuff gets delivered to the wrong address imbeciles
