If you had to pick one US coin that you own, that is your favorite, what is it? Please post the coin, and explain why you like it better than others in your collection. Ok, here goes. I like this 1885cc. It isn’t the most expensive coin I own, or have owned. It isn’t the highest grade, nor the most attractive in terms of eye appeal. I own PL coins that have more eye appeal. However, it is a harder date CC Morgan, that happens to be PL. I just have a fondness for it.
My 1826 bustie (O-102), PCGS AU53. All my other bust halves are G and under, having one with original mint luster is sweet!
This was my first major cherry pick. Purchased at an antique store in 2009. I was 17 years old. $25. 1833 N-5 Double struck with obverse brockage.
Reading compreheion fail means an edit Mine is my low grade 1856-s 3 dollar gold still seller picture because of the slow post of Xmas such a strange coin and this one did business also hard to find a nice straight graded on at a lower budget Strong contender is my 1897-S quarter dug in our Klondike gold mine and my "Junk lot" found 1912-S V-nickel but I don't have good picture of those
I like this Twenty Cent piece I got in change back in the 50's. I was supposed to get 25 cents. I came in the house 5 cents short. But, Mom said to put it in my coin collection.
This one...the first coin I ever bought. Every time I look at it it I remember the 11 year old boy who worked for 5 weeks mowing his grandfather's lawn to earn the 5 bucks it cost to purchase. Then, it took another month to persuade the shop owner to sell it to me. He insisted that I convince him I that I knew why I wanted this one instead of a different 1794 cent for the same price (or a roll of wheat cents for half the price.) 57 years later I still have it and I'm still hooked on coin collecting.
You got me thinking and I came up with -- no favorite. Quite a number of coins that I like better than others that I have, but no single coin.
All of mine are favorites otherwise I wouldn't call them my favorites. If I chose one I would have to get rid of the others. Fair exchange in my opinion, I love them all. Good question, thanks for the post.
Mine is this 1923 S SLQ that I've had forever and think it may have come from when I was a paper boy in the 50s. My newspaper was a quarter a month so that's what people usually gave me and I believe this may be one of them. I'll get it graded one day, but not in a hurry.
I don’t collect US coins anymore, but I have some keepers. I’m quite fond of this coin. It’s a wonderful design, one of the best of the 20th century, I think:
I am going with 1878 P Morgan. But I am going to cheat and pick 4 separate coins. I love showing them to show their progression. 8 Tail Feathers. Then someone call them idiots and that eagles have only odd numbers of tail feathers: 7 Tail Feathers, Reverse of 78. So they fixed it. Them someone called them idiots because the top arrow feather didn’t match the angle of the arrows. 7 Tail Feathers, Rev of 79. So they fixed it again (including changing the shape of the Eagle’s breast) and finally got it all correct. 7 over 8 Tail Feathers: In an attempt to reuse some of original reverse dies already on hand, they did not obliterate the tips of some of the 8:
