Has anyone had this happen to them? I received an email early this morning that 2 coins I have had on my watch list for months were reduced in price. I quickly went over, added them to my cart, and paid. I just received an email a bit ago from the seller saying that he was refunding my money because the coin had already sold. It was minutes between the email coming out and me jumping on vcoins. I've never been able to get a coin into my cart if it was already sold...did the seller perhaps sell it on a different platform? I'm just trying to figure out what happened. I have been watching this coin for several months and am pretty bummed. EDIT: I just went on their vcoins page and the coin is now relisted but at a higher price than what I paid for it this morning. Now I'm really upset.
There are a few specific dealers that do that. But yes it's happened to me with a few Alexandrian Tets. I just learned to not bother with them anymore.
They've said it was sold and then relisted it again at a higher price than what it was listed when you bought it? Super scummy.
If that's not a violation of V-Coins' rules, it should be. You should check those rules to see if there's a basis for filing a complaint. To me, this seems flagrantly dishonest. If the dealer wanted to raise the price on the coin he could have withdrawn and relisted it -- but not after you already bought it at the listed price, thereby accepting his offer. And not by lying and pretending that someone else had bought it.
Yeah I sent the seller a message and I also sent vcoins a message as well. We aren't talking high end coins, I am a filthy bottom-feeder when it comes to ancients haha. The coin in question was listed this morning for $12.74 when I purchased it. I got this message from PayPal when he refunded me the money: Note from REDACTED (For Now): I am sorry but this one is sold. Mark Then I went on as I was writing up this post to find the exact same coin for sale again but listed for $19.94.
Wow, why ruin your reputation with the community for $7? That is a really stupid business move. Most people on here once they turn away from a dealer never go back, and that could be decades of business lost. He should have sent you the coins for free instead of making an idiot out of himself. John
So the kicker is, I bought two coins from him. The one in question and another I have had my eye on for awhile. One that I really like but probably couldn't afford in a higher grade. I already received the "shipping notification" on that one but I am just about to the point that I'm ready to cancel that and write this seller off for good. Sure it's only $7 but it's more the principle of the matter. I always pay promptly and am respectful with my transactions. I expect the same from a seller as well.
You know what? Screw it. The seller I purchased from is "The Time Machine" on vcoins. Here is the part from my paypal receipt this morning: SKU: A41176 - Quantity: 1 - Roman, Caracalla, Pisidia, Selge, 198-217 AD, AE 17, SNG BN 436/433, VF/AVF US$ 12.47 Here is the page of the coin from this evening, after it was already "sold". https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/th...e_17_sng_bn_436433_vfavf/1296464/Default.aspx Same coin. Same description. Same SKU. Different price. If I bought something from Target online they wouldn't cancel my order and say it was "sold" only to reoffer it at a higher price. Why does this guy think that he can? Pretty bad business ethics.
You did leave the seller’s first name in the note which does limit the possibilities due to the spelling. I agree what you describe does not make sense because they may even have lost some money on the Paypal fees. I did buy a coin sale catalog from VCoins last year only to be told someone else had bought it a few minutes earlier on the dealer’s personal site but it was never resisted for a higher price which would be a real insult
7$ wasn’t much to taint his reputation over. It seems a bit ireational. Nice coin, hope you get it for the price you were offered.
I wonder this is some kind of screw up because I remember their being a good seller who has been around forever??? I don't get it, but I would be mad too, FF. John
Please let us know what's his reply to your email. I can not believe he did that after 43 years in business...Maybe an "honest" mistake...?
Got the same watchlist email this morning from the same seller for another item and saw a bunch of their items went on sale for quite low prices, for instance one item I was looking at for $51 dropped to $32. I had picked out four items and was about to place an order when the page refreshed and they went back up in price. I figure that it was a mistake but I don’t know such a mistake could happen. Thought I’d email the seller and ask but I guess from your experience that wouldn’t have done much good.
I certainly hope it would be an "honest" mistake. Reading the vcoins Code of Ethics, I don't know if he "violated" any of them but it is certainly suspect.
The thing is, he continued the sale of the other coin I purchased from him. If it was a mistake, why didn't he cancel that as well? It was much more than the $7 difference this coin was. Here is the copy/paste from the email: Roman, Caracalla, Pisidia, Selge, 198-217 AD, AE 17, SNG BN 436/433, VF/AVF List price: US$ 19.94 Price: US$ 12.47 Gordian III, Moesia Inferior, Marcianopolis, 238-244 AD, AE 24, AVF List price: US$ 59.94 Price: US$ 37.47
If this wasn't all some unintentional error, his actions violated the requirement to act in a fair and honorable manner (# 14). Not to mention operating in accordance with commercial law applicable to dealers and consumers of goods. There's no minimum price below which such requirements don't apply.
I would not only cancel the order but make sure VCoins and Time Machine know why and why you are telling the rest of us about this. If I were a VCoin dealer, I would be complaining to VCoins management about his actions making my, and all, VCoins shops worth less. The hobby does not have room for fools who try to gouge $7.
I looked and I am not able to cancel the other order. Perhaps when it arrives send it back? As long as it isn't on my dime. I will let everyone know what comes from vcoins and/or the seller if they get back to me. Unlike this seller, apparently, I believe in full transparency. So much for my first purchase of 2021. I should've just passed.
