Hi all, well I got some slabs in today and I found out any lighting I previously had simply does not work and shooting through plastic is a whole new story! So I tackled it again and these are my results. If I could get opinions and comments it would be appreciated. You can play guess the grade if you feel so inclined.
Those photos are excellent. I would increase the brightness on the obverse a tad in photoshop, but otherwise, I wouldn't change a thing. You nailed it. Nice coin btw. I have no idea how to grade these but I will throw out a guess of MS65 RD.
Thanks Paul, after I uploaded the picture here I went back to photoshop and tried adjusting a few things. It just made the coin look fake and not the appropriate colors. This picture hasn't been photoshopped, just straight from the camera.
I just thougt it should be brightened a little on the obverse. But in the end, it is really about which photo more accurately depicts the actual appearance of the coin.
Those are very nice photos! A bit of constructive criticism: Either the coin is two slightly different colors on each side, or your white balance is slightly different between the two shots. If it is the former, please ignore these comments, but if it is the latter, you might consider trying to normalize the white balance (which can be done in a number of ways, depending on what type of camera you have). Hope this helps...Mike
I would grade it a Ms 65 Canadian coins are graded differently then US coins. I want to say your pics are wonderful could you share your secrets with us please JC
I see nothing on your coin that would keep it from a 65 using American standeards. However, I mam just not familiar with Canadian standards. As for the pic, detail and color all seem to be there without the marks screaming at you.:thumb: I like the pics, but as mentioned before, I would try to get the coloring more consistant (unless the obv and rev are really that different).
Very nice cent Snaz!! Great job with the photos also. I need to start getting my photos to look like yours.
Hmm ok thanks guys, I'll tackle the white balance features and try messing around a bit more with those. My set up is two white 60 watt bulbs and I prop the slab up at a 65 degree angle or so, with the lights directly above the slab at about 11 and 1 oclock. Above the slab is a milk carton so the light is diffused a bit when it gets to the coin. The real key I have learnt now is taking pictures with the slab standing on edge. Getting a coin well lit while laying down just doesn't seem to be possible. This doesn't seem to work with proofs or anything blast white. Shiny just doesn't work with this setup.
