What would y'all do about this?

Items paid for, tracking number received, seller said package was dropped off at the Post Office (through the slot in the wall) on December 18th. Still not showing as received by the Post Office?

But where does the government get it money to lose from?

One of the following has occurred.
    1) It was never dropped off as indicated
    2) It was dropped off and never scanned and is sitting until the po gets around to moving it.
    3) It was stolen by a postal employee or
    4) It was dropped off, the local post office no longer has it and it's sitting unscanned somewhere in the massive postal domain.

Any of these are real possibilities. But as indicated on the receipt that you attached, as far as the postal service is concerned, they don't and never did have it. All the po says was it's an electronic notification from the shipper. Time for you to contact the shipper and see if they can help. The first question is, was it ever mailed? The po says no it was not.

If Congress wouldn't have mandated more than a decade ago that the PO put aside billions each year to fund their pension it would make money.

No it wouldn't. Congress would just be bailing out their pension that they couldn't afford and many people would lose their pensions or get greatly reduced payments.

That's basically like saying if USPS didn't have to pay their employees they would make money

I had this happen. It won't scan until it hits the hub and by the day it was dropped out could take up to 3 weeks before it does. I had this happen. Seller dropped it in the box November 27 it didn't hit the hub until December 19. It is likely sitting on a truck somewhere. When packages have been dropped in boxes they have too many to scan them all. Screenshot_20210102-190838_eBay.jpg

So here's an interesting twist: I bought an eBay item, and it was left in our mailbox today, well ahead of the expected date. As is common, it has a laser-printed label, completely covered with transparent packing tape.

On top of that transparent packing tape is a very faint Postage Due stamp, with "2.65" written in fat Sharpie (looks like crayon). The Postage Due is very hard to see, so I'm guessing the letter carrier just didn't see it. At this point, who, if anyone, is on the hook? The seller, me, or the carrier?

The seller took a Priority Mail Flat Rate envelope, folded and taped it, and put a first-class label on it. The PO apparently processed it as postage-due Priority Mail. But since they made no effort to collect when they delivered it... what happens next? I'm guessing "everyone pretends it didn't happen". But I wonder if I'll get a slip demanding postage, or if my carrier will get in trouble?

Not so. The po has funded the military retirements until the law was changed. They still lost money. Congress uses the postal service, which is a branch of the government, as a way to support itself but the po has and still loses money.

The post office just lost more money. It was delivered so no one is on the hook for the difference. All Priority Mail pieces have the rules for their use printed on the mail piece. Once delivered it's a done deal. You are under no obligation but if you so choose you can take it to your local office and pay the difference. You may even have to argue to do so but that's up to your local office. After it's delivered most offices don't want to mess with it.

I don't think I'd be doing anyone any favors by doing that. I am going to tell the seller to cut it out, though. Trying to repurpose free Priority Mail packaging is against the law, and doing it without even turning it inside-out is also stupid.

I think however you look at it, the main way the PO made money was by delivering the mail. Take their motto, and what it means in human labor, and you begin to appreciate the service provided. You complain when it doesn't work, and say nothing when it does.

I remember the cries that went up whenever they proposed an increase in stamp prices. Then others grumbled when they had to presort bulk mail to get a discount. I was involved in that process while getting county tax bills out.

My mother retired from there, and I worked as a seasonal one year. My mother still worked for the union after retirement just to maintain the family health insurance, which our family really needed. So I know somewhat of what I speak.

I'm not going to argue with you here since the pension issues are similar to private pensions which have, in many if not most instances, failed the pensioners. In this instance, Congress mandated that they fund their pensioners out 70 years but control whether they can increase postage rates. If it wasn't for having to set aside billions to go into the pension fund, the PO would be able to pay their bills under the current rates. Of course the proverbial can was kicked down the road to where we are at now. To keep the PO afloat while setting aside the billions needed to fund the pension fund it's a no brainer that they need more money. Where would one expect the revenue to come from? To me it looks like from either rate increases or from the Fed.

You're repeating the same myths over and over and over again. The PO is not required to fund their pension for 70 years, they're required to properly fund it. That myth has been disproved countless times and I have personally posted about it numerous times on this site alone likely even including directly to you

They lose money because they're inefficient, who ever negotiated their drop ship contracts did a horrible job and lets them pay less than half price for USPS to do all the work, they over charge for insurance which should be a huge money maker but very few buy it since they charge so much, and the declining junk mail.

I ordered a kitchen sink cartridge on the 6th.
Seller (shipped or printed a label on the 7th.
Post office saw it on the 12th, when I was to expect delivery.
Keep in mind the kitchen sink is slightly leaking a bit of water and we have a towel wrapped around the faucet.
Package seems to be stuck in Illinois since the 15th for 2 weeks.
I contact the seller and say I cant wait anymore and need to fix the water leak now locally.
The 4 parts places have nothing and I order one locally to be in within 4 days....meanwhile I turn the water off to the sink, dishwasher, icemaker.
Finally got the part in locally and installed just in time to make more ice cubes.

The internet ordered part finally made it to Arizona and is set to arrive on Tuesday.

None of this makes any sense. I mean only roughly 50,000 postal employees have had to take time off for covid related issues. How can this possibly slow down the mail during the holidays?

i partially agree with you but the way the PAEA was written made it virtually impossible to pay their debt.

I don't get it. Just received a watch from China by FedEx Express. Only took 5 days. Watch parts from Russia 10-14 days. Wrist watches from Russia and the Ukraine, average 3-4 weeks including customs. How can watch stuff cleared in New York only take 3 to 5 days to get to Seattle, and coins take weeks?
