How can you tell the difference between a proof coin that's been in circulation? Trying to learn

imparred proof once its in circulation its a proof but its not you can tell by the much more stronger mirror like details and strike it depends on the condition.

I've found some I've been suspicious about. Any sure fire way to tell?

I've been hesitant to buy rolls on ebay. What would be too high a price for a roll?

You don't have to buy rolls for example buy a lot of 50 silver dimes/rolls worth for around $100 as long as there are pictures of the actual coins and don't buy items with stock photos.

If you have a Red Book you can also check for mint marks. Some coins with an S or W mintmark were only minted as proofs!

Besides an (impaired) mirror like finish, the rims will be more squared off than on a circulation strike.
