Just curious about how this was caused? It is from a 1984 D Penny. This is the only other thing I found on this coin. Something maybe going on with the 4 and the 8 as well as maybe the mint mark? The coin is so dirty that it is hard to tell.
After cleaning up the date and mintmark a little, there doesn't seem to be much to look at there. The "C" looks almost twisted(hard to see in the photo), and the "I" and "A" are much "fatter" than I am used to seeing. The "C" is what I have not seen before and was curious about really. Thanks.
No offense 9ball, but one can not try to hard in coin collecting, you just have to be prepared for the outcome pro or con. So far it appears to me that Jeff is very accepting to CT advice and opinion. Keep posting the best is yet to come!
Read the title of this thread... "JUST CURIOUS" ...I was just looking for clarification on how it happened. Thanks for your input.
Jeff , I understand what your asking . I wish I could answer that but I was told to not unless I knew 100% for sure . Maybe an expert can weigh in ?
Naturally, when I see damage similar to yours, I'm just curious about which one of the literally thousands of ways that the PMD could have happened. Then, I just get rid of it and move on. A little knowledge of the minting process helps!
Sal, we love you but would love for you to please slow down. You don't always have to be the first one to answer.
