We are having an educational conference with a theme of Lincoln because of course it is his 200th birthday. We are handing out Lincoln stamps and hopefully 2009 Lincoln pennies in each of the attendee's packets. The problem is that we can't find a bank or coin dealer that has any rolls yet. We only need about $3 worth for about 250 attendees. Any ideas? Conference is the 12th and 13th of March and we are running out of time. Thanks.
I sold two rolls to a guy here in town for $150.00 he offered $75.00 a roll and I let them go. I figure I only paid a dollar and well $149 profit. I'll get some from the bank later in the year. Ice
Call all the dealers you know and do a lot of praying. Once they get released, I would guess that you could get them at a descent price, but I know of none yet, although my bank did say they were expecting them soon (not well defined what soon meant).
I'm in Illinois and just checked with a cooperative bank. They rely on their courier and just get mixes of whatever's out there. Blame the U.S. Mint for not coordinating the release better, but I understand you now may be able to buy from FROM the Mint (which should have been in place in the first place). They really needed a plan to make this work!
I have seen them on ebay for massive $$. I personally can wait until my bank gets a few boxes in for my personal collection but the conference is looming. I thought that some area of the country may have been blessed with a load already and I could hit up a friend in that area. Seems that no rolls are availible in any region. There goes my chance to convert some of these conference attendees into coin collectors.
The two rolls I sold my wife got at the bank. I'll go in the morning and see what they have. I need to see if they have the presidential dollars as I am going to collect them. Ice
I was just informed yesterday that my bank will not be getting them. They were orignally given a delivery date on the new pennies, and then they got word from their source to forget about them. The FED is not releasing them until they get rid of all the old coinage they have stock piled. It only makes since. The mint gives us all this hype about the new cents, and then no one can get them. Basicly boils down. FED not ordering them, were not going to get them. Dave
Can't find them around me either. To bad you didn't or couldn't wait a few more months. Probably be all over the place and for face value. Hey here is tip. Hand out Lincoln Cars. With the auto dealers doing so bad you might be able to get some real deals. :headbang:
That's what I paid for mine that are being shipped...$1 each from the KY release...i have family scouring the country for them...no luck yet, placed and order for 4 boxes @ my local BOA
You might go for the Denver coins, they seemed at one point to be pretty abundant and cheaper on ebay than the P issues a week ago. There's a chance the mint may never release any more. I'm sure they have some supply, but when there's no need, why release them? Their view is the mint has a special program for collectors and that's where (of course) they prefer we buy them. $$$$$$$ Another bonus for them, withhold the 1:1 biz strikes (where they lose money) and make a "mint" by selling into a huge demand by collectors (at a hefty profit). You can't tell me none of the smart guys running the mint haven't thouight about this. Times are tough, they gotta make money too. Technically, the mint has fulfilled it's legal obligation to congress. They created the necessary coin and released it, albeit in limited quantities, but they did make it and release it per law.
I just read on the US Mints website that on 3/13 they'll have the new Lincoln cent for sale but that will be too late for your conference. We have 3 banks that are on the look out for Garrett, but they haven't hit our area yet.
I dont know if this helps but the mint is going to be offering them for sale on the 13th of this month. Good luck.
The 2009 proof and silver proof sets will have the "numismatic" 1909 composition cents (95% copper, 5% zinc/tin). They will not have the copper plated zinc (present circulation composition) cents included.
Thanks Jack! I appreciate the thought. I'm going around town today on my day off to see if I can scrounge some up at the local banks. Might be a fools errand but we are short on time. Moen
