Yes I know that LRB coins are super plentiful and available everywhere. Herein lies the good part about them as some members like @Victor_Clark and @Valentinian here will tell you. Since so many are common they get overlooked by a lot of collectors. Sometimes you will find some of the hard to find ones that get mixed into the crowd of the super common ones. I don't look to often for these LRB coins either but when I do find them and are well priced I will buy them. These are what I picked up today. Post up your not so common LRB coins for everyone to see. Constantius II as Caesar, AE Follis of Antioch. AD 330 and 334. FL IVL CONSTANTIVS NOB C, laureate, draped, cuirassed bust left. PROVIDEN-TIAE CAESS, campgate, 11 layers, 2 turrets, star above, no doors, dot in doorway. Mintmark SMANTI. RIC VII Antioch 74; Sear 17657. Crispus AE follis of Nicomedia. AD 324-325. FL IVL CRIS-PVS NOB C, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust left. PROVIDEN-TIAE CAESS, campgate, seven layers, two turrets, star above, no doors. Mintmark SMNB. RIC VII Nicomedia 92
Those are some nice campgates with great patinas. The obverse legend for your Crispus is FL IVL CRIS-PVS NOB C --- RIC VII Nicomedia 92
LRB's aren't exactly my primary area of interest. However, here's my fourth LRB and my only campgate as of now. Although I believe I may have possibly misattributed it. Constantine AE3 Follis, Antioch 326 A.D. Obverse: CONSTANTINVS AVG, laureate head right. Reverse: PROVIDEN-TIAE AVGG, campgate, two turrets, star above. Mintmark: SMANTΓ Diameter: 18mm Weight: 3.50g RIC VII, 71
Some of my favorite types of LRBs are campgates and FEL TEMP Horsemen. Plentiful and you can find them in good condition and reasonably priced. Your two new additions are really nice. I particularly like the sandy patina on the 2nd coin.
Here is one of commonest Roman coin types of all. 17-16 mm. Constantine II, struck 332 at Lugdunum (Lyons). CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C (Junior!) GLORIA EXERCITVS Two soldier and two standards <crescent> PLG in exergue RIC Lyons 254. Bought from Barnard and Moore at the Cumberland Coin Fair, London, March 2, 1996
Great pickups @bcuda ... It is not my area, but here is one of mine: RI Constantine I CE 306-337 Æ Follis 19mm 3.2g Siscia CE 326-7 AVG Laureate R - PROVIDENTIAE AVGG Camp gate 2 turrets no door star RIC 200
I've posted this one a couple times already but it's the same type as the 1st coin you posted from a different mint . This coin has the distinction of coming from a recent hoard. Notice the U in the word NOU instead of the letter B on your coin.
Nice new additions I really like the Crispus Although, his I's one of the most bizarre and twisted in all of ancient Rome... and that says a lot And some people call Con-stain-tine a saint Anyways, let me help keep the barbarians out with a few more gates:
I did not notice that the Constantius II above and another coin I have of Constantine II are almost identical both from Antioch.
