I went to the pizza shop near my office for lunch today. They have one of those "Take a Penny - Leave a Penny" cups. In the cup was a 2005-P Buffalo Nickel! I asked the cashier if I could put a dollar in and take the nickel and 2 Tennessee quarters that were there. He looked at me like I was nuts but told me ok. So my net cost for the nickel was 30 cents. I still can't believe it was out there in circulation - And its in great shape too. A couple of very minor marks on the obverse field only. Steve
I have been seeing a lot in circulation. Which is good. I have received them in change from fast food and quick marts. And, got them by the roll from my bank
My wife handles coins and currency from customers all day. She brings home Keelboats and new Buffalo's every day (I have a whole box full)......as well as silver dollars (including susans), wheats, mexican and canadian coins. It's great.
Welcome to the Forum greenman !! Now don't be surprised if you turn some our other members green with envy after that comment
I have so many bisons that I've stopped collecting them and stopped searching through them. Especially heavy on the Denver coins. My bank gave me dozens of rolls a while back and my local dealer sells them for 6 bucks a roll (like that's gonna happen)
All I can say is that you guys are really fortunate. I used to be in a position where I handled a lot of coins and was able to pick up quite a bit of silver. Now I don't handle coinage in my job. I have to say though, I haven't seen any of the new nickels in circulation. Steve
