What is the 2006 nickel supposed to look like?? I know that it is supposed to have Jefferson with Monticello, but it going to have the same design as it did before it changed?
That's up to John Snow now. The CFA and CCCAC are at odds what the coin should look like, so the decision now is in Sec. Snow's hands. Let's hope he choses somehting original rather than the old design, which the CFA wants.
The design will not be the same as before. The new obverse will remain and the new monticello design has not been released.
No guarantees the new obverse will stay, at least, not at this time. I would bet it will be and entirely new nickel, obverse and reverse, at this time. We will find out soon enough!
Let's hope that it is a nice looking coin that is worth pulling out of circulation & putting into your collection. Aidan.
Well according to law it has to have Jefferson and monticello but I think Mr Snow can over rule that...not sure...maybe it has to be Mr President. Speedy
My understanding was that the obverse was here to stay and that Monticello will be on the reverse, but from a different viewpoint/perspective.
Only Congress can change coin designs for designs that have been issued for less than 25 yrs. For designs that have been issued for 25 yrs or more - the Secretary of the Treasury can change them at will if he so desires. The Sec Treas also the final say on all new coin designs.
As far as I knew, the Monticello thing was put into law by the Virginia pork barrel Congressman. I was not aware that Jefferson had to stay on the front, but I guess it makes sense. My vote is to stick it to those selfish Virginia Congressmen and put Monticello ion the back in a size that is barely noticeable with the naked eye. Maybe a mini-Monticello as small as a mintmark. It would not be too much of a distraction, and there would be plenty of room for a nice design.
how about the reverse turns into the Statue of Liberty or DC(You die-hard Reps, take it easy on the comments with DC cause no matter what u do, its still ur capital)
It's definitely an ugly coin. One can only hope 4 something worth l@@king at. Damn dead presidents! We need our heritage on coinage...not corrupt politicians. What will we do when slick Willie dies?
Hey Silver Dollar Man... when Slick Willy Dies maybe it will mark the first time that a cigar has graced the overse of a coin..perhaps even Willy himself will be smokin it on the Overse?? Worse things can happen ya know!! hahah keep that mind open...
By law, the 2006 nickel must feature an obverse depicting Jefferson and a reverse depicting Monticello. The designs do not however have to be those the Felix Schlag design or those featured on the 2005 nickels. And, it is my understanding that they will be entirely new designs.
Or maybe...They could make the obverse of the coin Jefferson AT Montecello, and have the entire reverse to do something with. I like the V nickels myself
Hey Speedy, You are right..the political comments were not warranted..hard to resist a B.C. pundit huh? By all means we should keep it toward the topic. Back to the straight and narrow..deviation was due to synaptical misfire and I just took my Focus Factor pill and back on track!! Have some fun..but only just a little bit..
