IMG_20201230_104948489_HDR (1)-horz.jpg This is only my second post in the World Coin forum so excuse me if I get it wrong . I received this Coin that's described as a 1868 5 Francs K.M #24 . Can anyone help with grading and where to get Values . Thanks . This way I know how to repay a special friend when he's having a bad too.

Putting "Belgium 1868 5 francs ngc" on Google gives this as the first reference. As to condition, probably go as with US issues. I would guess XF

    Yea - I'll give it a VF.
I hope you use your coin collection to learn a little history. Leopold II was a very bad man. From Wikipedia -
"Leopold's administration of the Congo was characterised by atrocities, including torture and murder, resulting from notorious systematic brutality. In 1890, George Washington Williams coined the term "crimes against humanity" to describe the practices of Leopold II of Belgium's administration of the Congo Free State.[1] The hands of men, women, and children were amputated when the quota of rubber was not met and millions of the Congolese people died. Colonial accounts typically emphasized Leopold's modernizing changes in the Congo and not the genocide he facilitated.

Yea this guy was BAD. A popular thing he liked his lackeys to do was to punish the man of the house for failing to meet quota by chopping off appendages of his wife or children.

there’s a horrific photo of a Congolese man staring forlornly at the severed hand and foot of his 6 year old daughter. Google it I won’t post it here
