    Nice. I don't think I have seen that denomination. Here is a similar one.

    I have nothing dated 1787, so Great Britain it is. Almost two hundred years later, a shilling dated 1970. I know I could look it up but what is George III to Liz II? Fifth or sixth great-grandfather?

    Amazing! I've nothing dated 1819! Here's a shilling dated 1816 (KM 666) - another George III.

    1816 GB shilling - I have been told that this one is some kind of a counterfeit and not made of silver. The color certainly does not appear to be silver, though it might be some sort of tarnish. 1816 GB shilling obv.JPG 1816 GB shilling rev.JPG

    I'm torn on that coin, @coin_nut. Something looks fishy but I cannot put my finger on it. Maybe it is the color. I just don't know . . . Have you weighed it? https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces8476.html says it should be 5.66 grams; 24-millimeter diameter and 1.2 millimeters thick.

    Anyway, next coin. UK or GB half-crown, 1921. It's been around the block a few times.

    GB shillings. The off color 1816 (above) is only 4.68 g and has a dull sound on the desk top, whereas the obvious silver ones below all have that distinctive 'ring' sound.
    1745 = 5.90 g
    1826 = 5.54 g
    1834 = 5.50 g
    1872 = 5.55

    It's a counterfeit. This site will give you an id for the die pairing. http://www.steppeulvene.com/index.george_iii.html
    It's quite comprehensive, so if you can't find either of the dies, I suggest you contact Peter to get it added.

    Sweet! How very interesting, @robp! Thanks for sharing.

    The best I can figure - group F with the 1816 Q. What do you think, @coin_nut?

    Okay, playing off your last British coin dated 1872, I'm taking us to Mecklenburg-Schwerin, a grand duchy - Germany. This here is an 1872, Berlin minted two-pfennige (KM 316). The "scheide muenze" means 'fractional currency.' Well, that's how I translate it. I'm sure someone will disagree.

    That's a terribly awesome coin, Ed! I want it! Wilhelm/Willem/William is identified as the king of the Netherlands and the grand duke of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg! Oooohhh! That's neat! Well, that's what I interpret from "G.H.V.L." Is that wrong? Gross Herzog Von Luxembourg . . . ??

    Any-hoo, I'll play another Nederlands coin. 1988 two and one-half gulden graced with the left looking visage of Queen Beatrix!

    Glad you like it! I have quite a few of the 2 1/2 gulden coins. I think this 1863 is a counterfeit. 1863 NL 2 1-2 g obv.JPG 1863 NL 2 1-2 g rev.JPG
