Saw this on ebay and...what-the-hey...for $7, is it a clip? (seller's photos)



Also, should I try some clea... conservation?

Might be a clip. Hard to tell with so much corrosion.

 

those can be faked so be careful when buying raw

 

X2 and technically it's an incomplete planchet.

Did they have the machinery to punch out the blanks in 1827? I DON'T THINK SO!

Haha, you didn't have to wait to long. Granted, there's a lot of names and most people won't know what you're talking about saying it's incomplete.

 

I think most people call it a clipped planchet, like probably most people call cent coins "pennies"

 

But there's a curved clip and a straight clip. Both are the same date and I acquired them a few weeks ago.

 

...and, if I am not mistaken, there is a "ragged clip". Interesting, I don't see any Blakesly Effect on either of your clips.

 

Some nice coins Guy's I like to fine one like that be hard to fine something like that in a roll. Nice coin Kentucky and you to collecting nut nice 44 don't see that every day.

Yes there is the ragged clip and I'd sure like to have the same date. That Blakesley effect doesn't always show.
