It's weird, but I found this again today! I started seriously collecting again last October. i have a drawer in my lock box full of pennies form 1981- older. I have been collecting copper only. I recently bought my first Cherry Pickers Guide, and started searching my coins. I came across this one a couple hours ago and was trilled. I didn't know if it was real or not, because I'm am still learning. That's Cool! It is in AU-50-XF state. How much do you think it's worth?
It looks like 1971P-1DO-002. Listing on coppercoins has $9 for AU, $18 for MS-63. I have seen on ebay at 50% more at times. Jim02
Welcome to the Forum Jessash and this is a nice find. I would agree Jim, but I would need to see a better close up of Liberty to rule out a 1DO-001
IMHO I wouldn't spend the money on a microscope. Agood 3x - 5x loupe or mag. glass with nice lighting will sufice. The pics though should really have a camera with macro though. Only a novices opinion though.
Jim, You are correct! It is the 1971P-1DO-002! From the new pictures of the Obverse and Reverse, there is no doubling on LIBERTY which is a characteristic of the DDO#1, Frank
Jessash, Nice find! I noticed from your foloow-up posting that you are only keeping Copper cents from 1981 or older. Don't forget to check any 1982 Cents as about half of the 1982 Cents are Copper while the rest are Copper plated Zinc. Also, the 1982-P Small Date Copper Cent - DDO-001 is worth decent money even in EF and AU grades but extremely pricey in MS grades. Good luck...Frank
