I have maybe 80-100 proof and mint sets I’m looking to liquidate. Earliest date is 1957 if I recall correctly and they run up to the late 1990s. I know coin dealers will differ some on price, but overall will I be better dumping everything to my local coin shop or listing all on eBay? Any thoughts welcome.
I would check to see what your LCS will offer first and then consider the difference to selling on Ebay, you have Ebay seller fees, Paypal charge and then the time spent with listings, Packaging and shipping, the Early sets will bring the most because of the silver content, it gets hard to make much after 1970 but you do have the IKE and SBA, the sets from the 80's don't really sell for much, i would combine those in lots or runs, most of the 90's are not much better, check Ebay for sold prices and you can get an idea of what you have then estimate the fees.
You could also try on Cointalk here. Research what dealers would offer, and try to do better here Paypal F&F or net regular Paypal. Most dealers have loads of these in stock and they don't sell very well. That is why selling as a group on Ebay or here directly to collectors might be the best bet.
many years ago I drank 2 big bottles of the 20/20 strawberry flavor is memory is right..... was throwing up fluorescent green goo the next day,,,, it was not good at all! kids DO NOT try this at home! (do it outside) LOL! Just gonna put it out there I wasn't the one to derail the thread!
Johnnie Walker Blue, but only on special occasions. Getting back to the Proof sets, yes they are out of favor these days, but I still like them more than mint sets.
My dealer has a huge table dead center of his store piled high with mint and proof sets. He truly struggles to get them sold. They just don’t seem to be a big mover currently..... I don’t think I would try to sell them to a dealer as I most imagine that most shops are heavily stocked with them. If it were me and I needed to maximize profit, I would privately sell them.
You would need something that was desirable. 1955 set, or some coins that would grade super high, 69 etc. Generally, the market for these is very poor. You would do best to sell them individually on EBay if that is an option, and if you have the time. If you sell these in one large lot to a dealer, you are not going to be happy with the price you receive.
