I put up some better grade (MS-65 to -67) Lincolns (Memorial backs) on eBay, all slabbed by a major TPG. Reasonable starting price plus a BIN. My BIN's are based on the prices in Coin Trends which I would never pay. IMO too high. One just sold for the BIN price!!! Maybe I just caught a little piece of the current Lincoln price surge!
or you got a bidder that has been looking for the coin for quiet some time and when you listed yours he decided to snatch the coin!!
That is why so many are now using ebay. People from all over the World and of many intelligent levels are also using ebay.
I just checked the PCGS site and they have the same price as Coin Trends. And at $40 I can't believe it's all that hard to find, even in a PCGS slab. I think the hype is kicking in.
I think it will die down a bit, and then go through the roof when the cent is finally eliminated, which should be in the not-too-distant future.
And then back down again as the coins disappear from circulation and people forget about them, and interest focuses more on the current lowest face value coin. The end of the cent will probably cause an increasein interest in the five cent pieces.
you're seeing the end result of what I believe to be a higher interest in lincolns with the 2009 program, the same way that the states quarters program drove up the prices of all washington quarters the lincolns are doing the same thing.
I go to a coin show monthly, all the Lincolns are quickly snatched up by collectors...the demand is HUGE.
I won't disagree with you about the price going back down, who knows what the future will hold. But I doubt the Lincoln Cent will ever be forgotten. Too much history, longest running coin, and Lincoln on it.
How you guys noticed any price increase for the 1909 and 1909 S VDB, especially since it is the 100 year anniversary?
Yeah, I bid on a 1909-P VDB on eBay and it sold at quite a bit above PCGS pricing and it was RAW! I would have bid much higher for it but since I have already spent too much money on coins from the last pay check that should have gone elsewhere, I held back. I put the bid in early since I had to work and the Auction was closing while I was at work, so I was hoping for the best and that no else saw what I could see. I was probably just seeing things but the coin appeared to have several Die Markers for the Matte Proof, so I am sitting here kicking myself in the butt! I was on one of my Matte Proof Lincoln Cent Cherrypicking binges where I will pick several Dates to search and with every opportunity, I will check every auction for AU and BU cents in the Dates that I am searching and sometimes check the same coins two or three or more times. It has worked for me before but sometimes I am just seeing something that is not there, so it is a gamble. Even if I am seeing things that aren't there, I usually end up with some really nice Lincoln Cents. In fact, I have picked up some early Lincoln Cents that appeared to be darkly toned MS-60's from the Auction pictures, that were actually beautifully toned MS-64's and MS-65's. Since I was outbid on this particular coin, now I will never know, so the butt kicking will continue for awhile! Frank
Problem is, collectors are always the last to know that the wave is about to crash on the rocky shoreline. They seldom even realize it until they pick themselves up all bumped and bruised.
what is the BIN price, and what does it mean? what are ms-67 2008-d lincolns going for? i have a couple unslabbed and a ton of them in lower ms.
BIN = Buy It Now How sure are you that your coins would actually grade MS67 ? That is a very tough grade to get for a business strike coin.
The price ran up for two years steadily, if anything now they are peaking, even dropping in some cases. Strong coins are holding, but the liners and weak for the grade coins are dropping and sitting in cases longer.
i was estimating. i bought some new rolls of them and picked out the best four out of 15 dollars worth. theres no hits on them and they look perfect, but im still kinda new so i might be wrong and they may go 66 or 65 for all i know.
