Hi everyone, I've been thoroughly enjoying everyone's Christmas coins, especially the Secret Saturnalia! Santa Ominus1 was very generous this year and decided that I hadn't been as naughty as I thought I was. On Christmas morning, my nephew and I opened the Christmas envelope and found this! A Crispus Campgate! It was a very pleasant surprise. I really like the campgate reverses. My nephew has been building towers with his Lego lately, so, he thought the coin was really cool too. I'm working on him. lol Thank you so much, @ominus1, we really enjoy the coin! My sister, even though she thinks I'm gullible and every coin I have is fake, got me some coin sheets. Unfortunately, they're 1.7", a little too small. But, I give her credit for trying. My brother gave me some money that he specified is to go towards AMCC 3, which I'm very excited about! I have one more surprise from one of our friends on the way. Fingers crossed that it comes in this week! You guys are way too much! Thanks for making this year much more bearable. Erin
..you're most welcome Erin and a more deserving person here i couldn't imagine..enjoy & Happy Holidays!
Coingrats Erin! Beautiful Crispycremeus camp gate I remember the shock when I first read his story. That @ominus1 is a real class fella. Here's my best, which isn't nearly as good as yours (LOVE the sleeved look):
Awesome coin for Erin, and awesome thoughts from @ominus1 ! My Crispus: RI Crispus 317-326 CE AE Folles Caesar in Trier Campgate - Heraclea mint
What a great present! @ominus1 is generous indeed! Happy New Year, Erin. My only coin of that poor Crispus. Such a handsome lad, too. Look at that twinkle in his eye. Crispus Caesar (son of Constantine I), Billon reduced Centenionalis, Arelate [Arles] Mint (3rd Officina) 321 AD. Obv. Laureate bust right, CRISPUS NOB CAES / Rev. VOT • V in three lines within laurel wreath, CAESARVM NOSTRORVM. In exergue: T [Crescent] A. RIC VII ARLES 235 (p. 260), Sear RCV IV 16747, Cohen 30. 20 mm., 2.73 g.
Wonderful gift!! 322 AD Obv: CRISPVS NOB CAES, bust r. Rev: CAESARVM NOSTRORVM around wreath containing VOT X Aquileia Size: 18.95 mm Weight: 2.8 grams
4th century is not my main area but one cannot say they are not interesting and fun to study. Crispus is one of the emperors well represented in my collection. RIC VII Sirmium 49, ALAMMANIA DEVICTA and some Caesarum Nostrum types RIC 161 Siscia RIC VII 210 Lyons Sad destiny for Crispus, it's god at least we have his coins to remember, since his faith was damnatio memoriae.
Erin, that was a sweet gift from ominus1 ! I attempted to do some editing on your coin with limited success . There wasn't much I could do about the focus. My last coin of the year was a Campgate issue of his brother Constantine II. Is there any word on when AMCC 3 is scheduled ? I've got some Tets in it .
Thanks so much, everyone! Love seeing all your Crispuses (?). Thanks for your efforts, @Al Kowsky! I have a long way to go with my photography skills. My brother, who is mostly a video gamer, took a break for a while and put together a collection of his own soon after I started collecting. He purchased some of the more popular coins such as the Athens tetadrachm, Julius Ceasar's elephant denarius, Shekel of Tyre, etc. He even has a few antiquities like a cuneiform tablet and a funky, life sized bronze finger. Sadly, once I moved out, he must've lost interest because he went back to video games. But, I'm thankful for his time collecting. I guess there's some interest still in him because he specified what the money was to go to. I do talk to him about coins a lot. lol Have a good night al! Erin
