Received this today in our Xmas card from Sister-in-law in Germany. She was given it in change in a local shop. Incredible as the Euro has been in place for 21 years. It doesn't look like it has worked very hard in 61 years

The 2 Pfennig coins were made of Bronze from 1950 to 1969, when they changed to the copper clad steel composition.
All the other denominations (1, 5, 10) were made of platted steel since the beginning.

Also in 1959, from the pfennigs, only the 2 pfennig were struck.

And last but not least, your coin was struck in Munich (D). My city :)

Military or civilian? Sorry to be nosy, just curious what brought her there.

My wife and her sister had a German mother and Norwegian father. After he retired from the Norwegian merchant navy they settled here in Spain. Her sister chose to remain in Germany.
