Oops, Whitman goofed...

Just noticed this, as I was looking at the Mint's website. For presidents that had more than one first lady (only applies to John Tyler and Woodrow Wilson so far) each first lady will get a medal/ gold coin. However the album for Presidential First Spouse Medals that Whitman put out (#2477) only has one space for both Letitia and Julia Tyler, as well as only one space for both Ellen and Edith Wilson. Which means in very short order the labels will be off by one and eventually two spaces. (Not to mention the fact that Letitia and Julia have their last named spelled "Tylor"!)

Seriously, is this that hard to proofread?! It doesn't take more than a glance at Mint literature to figure out that each individual first lady gets a medal.

Sadly Whitman has the only commercial album for the first spouse medals that I know of. I suppose I can see if they have blank or relabeled pages, or just relabel them by hand.

Bugs the heck out of me that couldn't get something that simple right.

How many slots did they allocate for Bill Clinton?

Not sure of the blank pages for those but usually Whitman has blank pages for almost all thier albums. And they used to have those sheets of press on Gold letters/numbers. I've made many odd albums using that stuff.
If in doubt contact Dennis Tucker, publisher at Whitman.

I'll look at the locan coin shop, trouble is I don't recall seeing many pages for 1 5/16" medals (main reason I bought this particular album, since it's a rather odd coin size). But I'll check...

First page is at least correctly labeled.

Know it was a joke... but at the time of publication they were unsure if the first spouse series would continue past Betty Ford, so past her there's just 7 blank unlabeled holes. Not going to stir up the debate again on precisely where the series ends, but based on most people's interpretation a first spouse gets a coin and medal the same time her husband does, even if the first spouse is still alive; so if Ronald Reagan gets one, so would Nancy Reagan, even if she's still alive at the time (though odds are she won't still be alive in 2016 anyway, though it's possible). Whether the presidential series ends with Ford or Reagan is a matter of interpretation and porbably won't be known until we get the far and the Mint actually makes some sort of declaration. Though if Carter dies between now and 2014, it would be a moot point. (He will be having his 85th birthday this year, and so far only 4 presidents have lived past age 90, though he and George H.W. Bush could become the 5th and 6th...).

During the election I speculated that Bill Clinton may have ended up as being the only person with both a presidential coin and a first spouse coin (though even had Hillary won, the series would likely have not got that far, since you have to have been dead at least 2 years before being honored, and he's only 62 atm.)

Anyway will check the coin store to see if they have corrected or unlabeled pages or something. I'd normally have just got one from Dansco, I actually prefer them most of the time, but as of the last time I checked they didn't have an album for 1 5/16" bronze medals.

After checking coin stores and online, have come to the conclusion that as of now at least, no commercial alternative exists. Whitman doesn't produce blank pages with first spouse medal sized holes, nor does anybody else as far as I can tell. Hopefully they eventually correct the error and make corrected (or even blank) pages available eventually... but atm only recourse is to just use this folder and manually re-label them or just resign myself to having them mislabelled. Oh well...

Have any contact info? Would like to inform them of the error and possibly see if they'll send any corrected pages to those that bought them incorrectly labelled. Can hope at least...
