Even though its damaged still the seller has it for only $75 or best offer is it a proof?what would you grade it. I have been looking for a nice cheap proof this old for a while could this be the one or should I pass.
It looks like a proof to me but before pulling the trigger I just want some more opinions about it/was thinking of making an offer of $50 or just get it as low as he will accept.
NO. What do you see that makes you think it is a proof? Have you looked on the internet to check the date position and other diagnostics. AFAIK, there was only one proof die pair. It does not match your coin.
Keep saving and watching eBay. Slabbed examples with a non-details grade can be found occasionally for a bit over $100. A details example might even be found for slightly less if you are patient.
I don't believe it's a proof but have seen a few 1905s that would fool a person. I have one that even fooled ANACS years ago.
I don't think it's a proof. Did the seller claim it's a proof? If you absolutely must have a proof and your budget criteria dictates an impaired proof, I would wait for a much better example-such as one in a details holder that is undamaged but with QT or AT, or an improper cleaning but still fairly nice.
