Canada 1-cent 1967 Doubled Die

There are tons of Canadian 1-cent coins out there, including 1967 centennial strikes, with machine doubling and die deterioration doubling. But a hub doubled die is actually quite rare. Here is one that I recently published in the CN Journal, and am considering submitting a follow-up article to Errorscope...

The obverse is the doubled die, you are looking at the obverse legend D.G. REGINA

To date, this has been a very elusive coin to find. I am lucky enough to have one in mint state condition.

Nice, strong doubling! I've always liked Canadian coins anyway. Since I started searching bricks, I have been saving all Canadian cents I run in to. I'd like to end up finding and putting together a date set of all with the queen on obverse. I've only found 1 with the king. I think it's the only one I've ever seen in circulation here in South Carolina. It was a 1941 in VF+ to XF. Cool find for me.

What is the market like for Canadian coin collectors? What sort of value does this have compared to a US DD?

No real market or demand. Our collector base is small, and 'lesser' varieties are not sought after. Compared to a US DD, the value of this is minuscule.... I do it because discovery and publication is a part of the hobby I enjoy.

They must be rarer, perhaps some day DD's will have value.

Hi Jim, there should be an Errorscope article submission sitting in Jeff''s inbox as we speak. I got annoyed watching my Vancouver Canucks play crappy hockey last night, so I wrote an article up during the game.

Great timing, I think we have a new one getting ready for review in about a week or so. I will toss a bug in his ear.. Thanks Roger..

I have a tripled die example with strong tripling in the legend. Would there be any kind of value for such a variety?

A nice old thread. I appreciate those pictures of true doubling. I've noticed that at the Canada and Coins site, there are many examples of MD established as a variety. That always troubled me, but there are legitimate doubling items. I've found a few from my circulation finds, but while I'm sure I see more in the NE than other CRH enthusiasts further south, not nearly enough to get variety specimens like that one above. Very nice!
