The TPG Apologist is at it again. It always seems that whenever any aspect of a certain grading company gets a negative post, you're right there to defend them. Sometimes its warranted, but sometimes your defense is ridiculous.

Why do you think the software on CT gives out points and lists the Top 20 users in certain categories? The major TPG forum gives out all kinds of virtual awards, badges and stars to increase your points. Why? Because people are competitive by nature. The points system is a way to keep them interested. There are always going to be people who don't care about such nonsense, but you are going to have to provide some pretty compelling evidence that the people spending hundreds on PO-01 coins are just doing it for the enjoyment. IMO, the thrill of having a highly ranked set is driving the ridiculous prices for bottom feeder coins. I believe that the lowball registry is a place where people can compete without having the $$ to play the game at the upper end.

Once again, collect what you like. No problems. But please, as you continue to defend your favorite TPG, think about how ridiculous some of your responses sound. The sad thing is that you provide a lot of good numismatic information on this forum, but it's my belief that junk posts like this undermine your credibility.

I feel sorry for anyone that actually cares about that.

You realize that when people brag about that they are almost always joking or being tongue in cheek right?

I already have but instead of reading it you decided to just go off on a personal attack against me. You are very misinformed if you think people weren't doing lowball sets before they got made official sets they were just buried at the bottom.

ONCE AGAIN the lowball sets were a direct result of people asking for those sets. PCGS had little to no respect for that area until they realized it was popular and then they started to embrace it.

Well you can believe what you want but that doesn't make it true. Thats just you having no respect for an area of collecting and because you don't respect or like it it must be the registry that drives it. It couldn't possibly be because people enjoy it

You're fooling yourself if you think the registry for any TPG isn't overwhelming people using it to show off what they have and not competitively point chasing.

ONCE AGAIN even the top sets very few of those are just point chasers. MANY of the award winners have passed on higher graded coins because they believed theirs was a higher quality even though it was worth less points.

For PCGS specifically the virtual album is a HUGE draw to people and many people do it just for that as it looks great and gives people a way to show off their coins all in one place. Theres even multiple people on this forum that do that.......

But sure just attack me and ignore facts if that makes you feel better

Obviously not collect what you like and you do have a problem because you keep reducing lowball collectors down to nothing but point chasers looking for an ego boost of a top rated registry

    Amen to that.

Reading comprehension must be hard for some people I see. How anyone with a brain could read what I wrote and come to a conclusion other than defending people collecting what they like and not demeaning them as point chasing zombies really just shows the bias some of you have

What, you think I should take more of them?

Coins in a pock may rotate and tend to slide back and forth, they don't tumble.

That's why they are typically left to run in basements, garages or out buildings.

I think if it were ground evenly and properly one could then pack it in their pocket for a while to smooth it some.

NGC does give out monetary awards in the form of free grading at the end of the year for award winners. It is an extra perk if you're putting together a type set anyway. The registry is a great way to showcase and look at your collection. More people would do it if they realized how nice and easy it is. Especially if you enjoy coin photography.

I don't really get low ball collecting but yes collect what you like at the right price. Here is an example last month I bought a 1856-S Three Dollar gold piece in AG-3 with a CAC green bean. Now I love this coin because it a pre-civil war San Francisco and though what I paid was a fair price. Yet a few years prior a PO-1 sold for $900 which just seem silly to me

Just put the thing inside a gigantic bell jar and pump most of the air out. Voilà! No more deafening noise. :p

Bah, that just means you need a third sticker with the Gödel number of the statement "the coin with certification number XXXXXXX graded by (PCGS|NGC) deserves both a CAC and CRAP sticker." ;)

But Gödel's theorems deal with consistent systems, and we're talking about TPGs here.

Or course you would also have to work out some system to suspend it off the floor of the vacuum chamber or it would transmit the sound through the base of the chamber.

Well, heck, as long as I'm setting up a vacuum chamber for it, I might as well arrange for magnetic suspension, too.

It can't be completely suspended, it will have to be tethered in some fashion, otherwise as the drum tries to rotate in one direction the rest of the unit will rotate as well and you probably won't get a good tumbling action.

As long as we're imagining active magnetic suspension systems in a big vacuum chamber, it certainly wouldn't be a big reach to suspend the base in such a way as to limit its rotation. Heck, just put a couple of arms on it, and suspend it by the ends of those arms.

(This is probably a good time to remind everyone that we're imagining, not planning.)
