I have an 1889 Canadian 10 cent piece and I'm having some trouble finding comparables. I'd say its in good condition but there are a series of scraps on the reverse. If anyone has some recent comparables I'd really appreciate it.

Hi, I don't have any pictures to show you. But your coin has been harshly harshly cleaned and is worth approx 350 dollars. If it hadn't been cleaned so harshly you could probably get another hundred or so out of it.

    I think it's worth more like $30-$50.

You can get years with a lower mintage, and in better condition for $100-$200.

If you can find some 1889 10 cent coins for 50$ I'll buy 'em all day long!
This one sold for 256$ at auction:

Expensive coin indeed, it saddens me to see what happened to it..I agree someone with no knowledge what so ever cleaned the living daylights out if it.
I'd actually grade it AG as well...
regardless, present trends value for a G grade....is 500 bucks.

Sadly, this gem and ALL of the silver that I purchased with it had been "fixed up" by the son of the original collector. Thanks for the help.I would also like to know why this issue is so scarce since as Coinkeeper said, the mintage on this while not high, doesn't seem to warrant the prices realised.Could this year have suffered the same remelt fate as so many other Canadian silver coins?

I have absolutley no idea why this coin is so expensive. .
Your contact is right, mintage of this item is right in line with other years from this era, and Im leaning toward that perhaps the mint melted down alot of the silver from that year.
Heres the mintage breakdown, from the current Charlton values all within the G grade for the 10 cents
    1887-350,000, $50.00
    1888-500,000, $10.00
    1889-600,000, $600.00
    1890H-450,000, $20.00

Rather than send this one away to PCGS and risk it coming back in a body bag,I may list it in my eBay site(jpcoins01) unless one of you fine folks wants to make an offer.

I dont know about value, but finding coins that old is fun lol although considering the prices i se listed, i doubt i would find one from this year lol

and please be carefull Yorkanzuna, self promotion and offers to trade are not permittred :) them things are left to PM's and the 'open' section. Just a friendly word of caution :)
