The sellers fb doesn't look all that good to me at all! He has quite a number of negatives 45 in the last 12 months, and for that reason alone, I would pass! May be a proof or a fake, you decide, I can't tell!

    My questions for you.
    A. Why would you buy this (or anything) without knowing anything about it?
    B. Seller has to many recent bad reviews for selling sub par items.

Hate to be a wet blanket but I wouldn’t buy/bid on raw coin I know nothing about.

because ebay return for defects policy, i do 80k a yr in sales on here, also buy 20 k in coins every year off ebay, there are no real coin shows anymore, without ebay i would not even be collecting coins now

also, if it is a proof, it is valued 3-6 k, so if i could get it for 400 it would be a steal, just do not know if proof or not, i know nothing of gold and am asking my fellow numismatists their opinion,.,.

Some of the best counterfeit pieces out there are gold. I won’t buy gold from anyone I don’t know unless I can see the coin in person. I don’t think this one is proof and I don’t know about EBay ratings but if this seller has poor ratings/reviews, I don’t think I would pursue this one..... But nothing negative jumps out at me.

he has 45 bad out of 4500, 94% is pretty good, as a seller i know people whine and complain that items took too long, case in point i have mailed over 100 pkgs this month, the majority of them "priority" which should take 2 days, yet 12 -20 days later, all packages are late

Yeah. You can take a chance. It does look good. And 45 of 4500 is 4455 of 4500 going the other way, think of that...

I would be leery because it is not graded.

What's the discoloration on the date...lots of surface wear...what you see is what you get doesn't sound good...

well, less than 4 minutes, and so far no one agrees it is a proof, so i guess i will let it glide away...

Would be interesting to follow the bidding... with 16 bidders they may run this up ...what is so rare about this coin and "nice" is not a numismatic grading term...

    45 bad out of 4500= 99% good.
It sold for $395 which is EF/AU price. If this was a proof coin,
it can sell for $10,000. The sellers are not that uninformed.

Based on this seller's ratings I wouldn't even consider it. I would wait for one to come around that is offered by a reputable seller with a 100% rating.

All else aside and considering that the dollar is 100% genuine.... It wasn’t a steal at the bid price when I looked at it... Seems it was at $342.00 when I looked. That was fair, but not a steal. If a gold dollar is your need (and I totally get it), they aren’t at all difficult to find. I sure would be leery of buying gold that I couldn’t study in hand though. The gold counterfeiters are way better than the Chinese Morgan/Trade dollar counterfeiters. And they excel at making fake gold dollars too. I think you made the correct choice.
