    Hello CoinTalk friends,

How would y'all (that is how they say it in Texas, right?) grade this 1850 half?

    Thanks!

Personal grade AU53, TPG would probably go higher.

I don't know where you keep coming up with these coins, Eduard, but you always have beauties to show us. I make it a point to always view your posts!

It kills me to say it, but:
    I agree with Doug.

AU-53, but, hard to determine the luster, could be higher.

Looks like AU-55 cleaned to me. Is the luster flat, or is it just the pic.

AU-50 but what's with the target area?

AU-50 but what's with the target area?
There is a dark halo around the and under the denticles and then the surface of interior is more shiny??
Nice coin though but it would not be possible to think it has never been cleaned, there is just no chance it was not but the area we are looking at today kind of bothers me how recently it may have been cleaned/wiped - it's one I would need to see in person.

Well, thanks everybody for your comments.

This coin came from a 'name' collection put together in the 50's, and sold by Stacks in 1989. It was bright when i bought it, but was not described as cleaned. It does not have hairlines, but does have some marks, and has retained some surface reflectivity. The darker area you see around the periphery is typical of coins which have been stored for a long time in 'Eagle' holders.

    Leadfoot there is no spoon

Where's the luster? Or is this example prooflike?

That issue notwithstanding, I'd grade the coin:

    AU details, (over)dipped, net XF.

Another beautiful and tough Date coin, Eduard! I agree that the coin is an AU-55 but might get a market Grade of MS-61.

I don't know if these will help but I cropped and only slightly edited the pictures.
