First time I've come across this type of anomaly. The rim/edge seems to change shape half way around the coin on both obverse and reverse in the same location. Any thoughts are appreciated!
Great photos. Might be from a very slightly tilted die strike? I've not seen any like it before. Maybe @Fred Weinberg, @paddyman98, @JCro57 or others can enlighten us.
Looks like the rim is damaged in the areas of the green arrows........ Might have got caught in a counting machine. I don't see it as an error, imo.
The edge is as perfect as it can be for a 49 year old coin. Please inform of the damage you see to the rim/edge. For future reference.
I'm talking about where your green arrows point. The first and second photos sure look like a rim hit at the B of Liberty, and I was just commenting on what I see where the arrows are pointing. It's hard to tell exactly what might have caused the 'line' just inside the raised rim, but it is not significant, imo. You are the one who said 'the rim edge seems to change shape....', so that's what I'm commenting on. If I'm missing something, let me know.
I'm trying to point out that the edge is perfect for half of this coin then suddenly changes. At the same point on both obverse and reverse. There are no hits or damage marks. The edge changes at the same point on both sides of the coin. I tried my best to make that abundantly clear, But I am wrong yet again.
To minor of what to be concerned? I would really like your thoughts on this coin, and please be original.
To me it just a minor issue. It has 49 years of circulation and it shows it. It looks like a very minor die that was not aligned correctly. It also looks like a few minor contact spots on the rim.
