The US Mint-What A Joke

Late Friday I received a text stating that my order for the 2020 uncirculated sets was unavoidably detained. My order would be canceled unless I called them within 2 days. They provided me with a phone number.

All I received was a busy signal when I try to call on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I tried at least a dozen times plus times, no joke, in Saturday and again on Sunday, just to get a busy signal.

I just tried 10 minutes ago and received an automated voice message that due to Covid19 they were experiencing problems and would get back to normal as quickly as possible.

Just like other businesses, Covid seems to be the fall-back position.

The virus is an excuse for many things, from paranoia to deliveries taking weeks or longer. That is why we got the virus, something new to blame for poor service and incompetence was needed. In any case I have my 2020 uncirculated coin sets and since they were shipped via UPS they came in a timely manner.

Yes, I'm sure 1.7 million people have been put to death worldwide and a hundred thousand restaurants put out of business in the US because... some service workers wanted a rest.

Jeez Louise, I think @erscolo was joking when he posted. Is it your nature to smack someone at the first opportunity? I hope not. This Covid issue seems to have many people ready to pull the trigger.

Get used to it. Customer service is becoming a thing of the past...with or without Covid.

I don't like it and I don't agree with it but it is very common today.

That was a "smack"? Certainly not if the previous post was a joke.

One of the sad things about today is that satire really is on its deathbed. It's nearly impossible to come up with a joke that's more ridiculous than reality, or what many people seriously believe is reality.

I was referring to customer service. It has almost completely disappeared.

That's why Sears and Montgomery Ward went under.

I agree whole heartily. The last time I went to Sears I don't recall finding an employee that smiled. I find that customer service is a lost art and that to me is a shame.

I work for Customer Service for USPS. I try my hardest to help customers with their mailing and package issues. Sadly, currently the USPS has 16,000 employees out with Covid issues, which has packages backed up and sitting in places for a week or more.
For the first time in my 29 year career, I have had to tell people that there is nothing I can do to help, and it hurts having to tell them that. But it is the truth and COVID bears a large part of the blame.

I would like to hear Ron White do a commentary on the U.S. Mint. He did a great one on Sears Automotive. :D

There's been a push to make it much more automated since computers are cheaper than paying humans. Given that customer service people could work from home, some companies are certainly using Covid to cut down on the expenses and speed up that process.

To be fair though many of these places are getting SIGNIFICANTLY higher call volumes about delays and everything else than normal so at least for some companies the inability to contact them is really just from higher volume and not cut backs

    +1

Customer service has always been an entry level job.

Years ago CS reps really tried hard to help, answer your concern, get good reviews, and get promoted.

Now they are some of the dumbest people on earth. Add to it they just don't seem to care.

As long as people complain about cancelled coin orders and bad customer service, we’re still doing fine ;-)
