I know how you feel, and I hope the news isn't bad. My cat Ziggy, who's going to be 15 in March, was diagnosed last week with chronic kidney disease, which is apparently progressive and incurable, although the progress can hopefully be slowed with a prescription kidney-friendly diet. There's no way of knowing how long he has; it could be anything from a few months to a year or two. Obviously I'm fervently hoping for the latter. He's been my companion for a long time, especially during this pandemic.

Here he is recently with his cup, begging for coins from passers-by:

Actually, this is how he asks for water -- he knocks the plastic cup into the bathroom sink from the cupholder above. It was his unusual thirst recently, asking for water 10 times a day, that led to my taking him to the vet. Apparently, it can be a sign of kidney disease.

On the subject of coin trays, most of them -- including Leuchtturm, which I buy under its American name Lighthouse, because Lindner trays no longer seem to be available in the USA* -- come with individual, stackable, clear plastic coin boxes from which you can slide the trays in or out. So no need to worry about cats or children! Which is why I leave some of my trays out on display.

    * Lighthouse and Lindner coin boxes are interchangeably stackable, so I can mix them together.

I wish I had better news but things aren't great. FFIVN is devastated.
    Sorry to hijack the thread.

Sad news about the cats! I hope for the best in both cases.

Like Donna I use the Leuchturm trays. Luckily, when I lived in Europe they were fairly easy to find used, usually for under 1/2 price, at coin stores. I would make the rounds every few months, even to coin stores that didn't deal in ancients, to look for them. Over five years I was able to pick up around 80.
