I don't like this year/mint, but this one is better than the EF coin it's going to replace. Lots of obv die cracks, gives it a bit more character.
Weakly struck AU 50 or XF 45 (probably higher graded, technically, but the weak strike does count against this coin, IMO). I'm sure someone's going to come here and call that coin VF or something silly like that.
Mike c'mon, even I'm not that silly Besides, there isn't enough detail there to even make VF if that coin were graded by the obv only.
How do you guys know that the coin is weakly struck and not worn? I am not suggesting that it does have wear - just want to know how to tell the difference.
Look at the reverse -- there is very little wear. If the coin were worn through circulation, it wouldn't be only on one side. Also notice the rims and the luster on the obverse. If it were worn down to this level, you wouldn't have luster left, and the rims would be much worse.
It also pays to know the series, the 25D and 25S Lincolns are well known to be some of the worst quality coins ever minted.
This happens on many dates This happens on many dates I have seen the obverse is weakly struck and the color is not right. It technically grades to me a AU-50 obverse and 60 reverse and has been cleaned. Sorry, it just don't look right and the spot is not characteristic with unoriginality. So the final grade would be at best a EF-40 coin - I'm being generous also.
