Hi guys, So this is the same one I posted about before with the longacre doubling on it. the 1864 L IHC, This time my question is about the "E" in "CENT" There is a raised bar right below the middle horizontal bar in the "E", I am not sure if this is a well known variety, but it is more then a Die chip, and it is definitely raised metal. I can't imagine there is a need for a picture of the whole coin, especially because I have yet to capture it well enough to do it justice. But believe me, I have tried several times. Whatcha guys think? Maybe I should have put this in the error section. I'm sorry for all the questions on this coin, I just have yet to get a cherry pickers guide.. Don't worry I will
To be quite honest I can't even recognize an E in that picture, let alone see what you are talking about.
Sure looks like post mint damage to me. If it were as-struck, I'd expect it to have the same patina/coloration as the rest of the E, and it does not. Respectfully...Mike
snaz, Are you are referring to what looks like a bar under the green Verdigris? If so, then it is probably the result of a Die Gouge. There appears to be two of them lined up horizontally and both somewhat covered in the green Verdigris. I don't believe that they are the result of a Clash, as I cannot find anything on the Obverse to match. Frank
