Capped die??

    Hello coin community☺️ I was hoping to get some help identifying whether this was a capped die error?? It weighs 5.40g

    It looks to me like someone hammered the edges of the coin.

    Hello and Welcome ! Wow , that quarters been through alot. I'm not qualified to answer your question but it looks awfully worn and smoothed out on the rim with a spoon .

    Agree with @bsshog40 . Your coin is not a capped die. Just PMD

    What could cause this sort of damage?? It doesn’t appear to be scratched or hammered in anyway LOL

    Not in the drum with the clothes, between the rotating inner drum and stationary outer drum. Happens a lot in commercial dryers. The coin is constantantly tumbling and hitting things, which causes it to suffer lots of hits, wear down the design, and make the rims wider, and OD smaller. Technically, this can occur if a coin is stuck in anything that causes it to tumble, but since it's impossible to know exactly which type of machine, it usually just gets lumped into the term "dryer coin".
