I have this 1940-S Washington Quarter which I'd like to submit to a TPG, preferably PCGS. I wanted your opinions whether you think its slab worthy or body bad worthy. I just want to submit it because I'm just curious what grade they would assign to it. I tried to take a decent pic of the coin, obverse and reverse, but that has something to be desired in itself. If the pics make it hard to make a decision let me know and I'll try to take better ones. The reverse of this coin has the same luster as the obverse, I just had a hard time gettng it to show up. Thanks for your opinions.

I don't think it will end up in a bodybag, but I don't think it will make any higher than MS-64 either.

What is your reasoning for wanting to submit it?

If those dark marks are actually on the face and not just the pics the coin is AU at best.

Not trying to be difficult, but do you have a clear shot of the face with some light on it? I can't tell if there are marks or rub there or not.

Just curious to what grade a TPG would give it, nothing more.

Yes, in my CT Photo Album. I was afraid that it would be washed out too much for a grading opinion, but here it is.....

    I think you'd get a 65 at NGC, but at PCGS, probably a 64. It's definitely unc.

Thanks for all of your opinions guys. Every one of which is highly respected. I'll be sending it off in the next few weeks to PCGS, through my local coin dealer because I am not a member.

with the extra pics, I think 64-65. A lot depends on the luster.

The thing is that it is a $25 to $30 dollar coin, so it may not be worth the fee. Now if it were a 40 D, that would be a different story.

    Danr,

I already tried that route. He's interested in "what grade a TPG would give it, nothing more."

    Let him spend his cash.

    One thing for certain is,

One thing for certain is you will get a grade - what they give it is any bodies guess. Probably somewhere between AU-50 and MS-63 and after that who cares?
It will not be worth anymore money than it is now it will be worth less because you have spent good money to have those "boys at ABCD" look at it.
And who is the guy on here that wants to tailor the conversation with "we have already tried that route"- who cares if we have tried that route - this is Coin Talk as far as I can see, we talk about coins. we offer our opinions - don't tell that guy what to say. We can say anything we want to say on here as long has it is appropriate for language and what I say is this-
Save your money and buy one already in a ABCD tomb and you will have what you want or keep it as a raw coin if you like it - it is not worth sending in to the ABCD gods.

I know its against my better judgement, sending the coin in. In any case, I dont plan on making any money from my coins so I'm going to enjoy doing with them what I like. The money spent or lost, whatever the situation, doesnt matter to me. I really appreciate and respect everyones opinion and/or concern, really I do.
