Westward Journey Coin and Medal Set Moved Til Next Week? I've been trying to get through to the Mint and I finally got a voice recording saying the sales of the coin and medal set have been moved back until next Wednesday. That bites! Heck I can't even get on the Mints website right now.
Yeah... the mint is really doing a terrific job. If the Mint Director was the Secretary of Defense, we'd all be speaking Arabic by now. When the H - E double hockey sticks is Congress going to get involved and do something about the crap that's going on with the mint?
I experienced the same results. Maybe this was the Mints test of its new computer system. If so, it failed. I think the Mint should have bought an etch-a-sketch instead of the computer.
Well, after seeing the same "maintenance" message that everyone is getting from the website at the US Mint, I decided to call the 800 number and order directly. I got the "We are unable to take your call at this time" message after pressing 1 at the first menu, just like everyone else. So I decided to play the 'ole "radio station call-in" game and just keep hitting the 800 number until I got through. When I did finally get in, I heard a message about the Westward Journey 2-roll nickel set being pushed back to June, not the Westward Journey Coin and Medal Set. So I decided to wait for a representative and after a few minutes I actually got through. I'm happy to say I got my order in....shipment won't be going out until June 10th but I'm on the list.
Well that explains it! I tried to order it this moring, also. All i kept getting was: "We are unable to take your call at this time, please call again later." SM
tanner, I misheard the recording. You are correct, they pushed back the sales of the other sets, not the Coin and Medal set. I too called several times before getting a recording then I waited for an operator. I got my 5 sets. Thanks for clearing that up for me!!!
I was able to call and place the order but it took some effort. The web site was not happening. Fred B
Finally got mine ordered, through the phone, after about an hour I gave up on the website. Got on the website once and received a "product no longer available" so tried the phone. After 5 short minutes of please try again I finally was able to get through, then my cell phone dropped my call while I was verifying my info!!! Took another ten minutes to get somebody.
Anybody think they will sellout today? I would have been pretty ticked if I hadn't got any of these sets at face value. In any case I'm glad one of them will be going to my dad for Fathers Day, and another one to my son.
One thing's for sure, the phone system is sure FASTER than the website. I got the excuse that the website is overwhelmed and still under construction but the gentleman was more than happy to assure me that the sets were still available as of 6:30pm EST and they are taking many orders by phone. Got my sets ordered to go with my 2004 sets. Appears the 5 per order limit may just be working for the simple collectors this time.
You've probably missed this so... You probably haven't heard this yet but the old Soviet communists have taken over the mint and are running things now. I guess they were more qualified and could do a better job.
Westward Medal set The web site was a total loss, so I was persistent and continued to ring the 800 mint #. I was able to get my order in for 5 sets. The total mintage was raised to 75,000 so they will be a little more available. Also the first sale allowed dealers to snap up sets quickly and the little guy was left to pay $50.00 a set on ebay if you so desired. This time a 5 order max was put on the sets which levels the playing field a little and forces the dealers to ship them to their relatives and friends, etc. BWJR
