I'm not sure by the pics of the date, some closer pics would help. It looks like the 9 and 0 have doubling. It looks alot like the VAM-12, but I would need better pics to be sure. -Mike
Can't have two VAM's it is either one die pair or it is another die pair. Can't be two different die pairs unless it's double struck forst by one pair and then by the other.
I would lean more to vam 32 since the 890 is doubled on the date.Jello condor is right it could be only just one vam number even if you have two seperate thinks going on the coin they still label as one vam They can't label the coin with two vams ,either it;s a vam 12 or 32 it can;t be both.I think that;s the way the vam system works just an opinion Alien JAZEC
I understand what you are seeing but there's no listing number on that with the S I will give you an example how the system probably works Say you have a 1890 normal die number 1 Now you have a vam with a die clash they will list that as say 1A . Now if you had a die clash and a doubled mint mark they may classify it as 1B say you have a die clash and a doubled mint mark with a pitted die they may classify iti as 1C , see what i mean they have to break it down to one vam number otherwise it will be very confussing Well your coin can be a new vam number which isn't discovered yet. But the date I not sure of Here is the one it look like. http://dmplvam.com/VAM/1890/images/1890 S VAM 30 S over S.jpg http://dmplvam.com/VAM/1890/images/1890 S VAM 33 Possible S over S.jpg
The S is almost identicle to the VAM-33 S/S Lower Loop. VAMworld » 1890-S VAM-33 But I can't tell from the pics if there is that 7 top above the denticle. Also what's going on with the 1 in the date?
What you are probably seeing near the one is damage look at the red indicating what looks like a bad dent exstending to the one area there;s no listing for the type of vam that the op has unless it may be classified as a new Vam that's just my opinion Notice my new picture of me on the bottom near my signature was taken in madrid. Alien Jazec
Thanks Jazz I thought it might be some kind of damage, but I found it interesting it looks alot like the outline of a 1.
I have to agree with you it does have the outline of the one ,but I don;t see a listing of the Whole date being doubled unless it;s a re punched maybe It doe's look strange I think a closer observation would probably help to determine what it really is you may be right what you are saying. the reason why i;m saying damage because there are other indications near the area that are damaged that;s why i went that route ,but you may be right. ? My only question would the date being repunched over rule the S/S Vam if I sent it to be graded by NGC or PCGS????
No it won't overrule the S/S, but the problem is I'm not sure what VAM it is. If it is infact an S/S with a repunched date it would be a new VAM.
Good Luck Jello. That would be cool if you discovered a new VAM Variety. I'm not sure how the grading works with possible new VAM Varietys though.
I checked ANACS site. I've never dealt with them so I guess from what I read all you have to do is submit it under the Variety Attribution service. I know it will take a while but let us know what happened. -Mike
Yes jello it may be a new one if that;s the case they have to cassify it but they may designate as a vam 32 or 12 I think it depends how they look at it. Alien JAZEC
