This new one dollar mule recently appeared:

The 2020 dollar mule was apparently found in a bag of circulating coins. Looks like the only example known so far.

I would speculate, that the obverse die was used to make 10c pieces, until the dies clashed.
Then somebody replaced the clashed dies and put them aside. Then maybe another worker needed die for dollars, took accidentally the clashed 10c die and, well, the rest is history

Nice coin! Very interesting! Thanks for showing!

Regrettably not - someone posted it on a Facebook group last month.

Hopefully more will start appearing though.

I'm under the impression that it's a mint sports, similar to the 2015 mule dollar coin. Time will tell.

If there's only 1 (or a very low number) IMO it had help from an unscrupulous mint worker. There's been a few from the US Mint, e.g. dime struck on a nail:

It's more likely an honest accident, the two coins are similar in size and it's happened before.

I do not believe this is an accident. The 2015 mule dollar happened to be unique if not very rare which does not make sense if the die has been swapped - I would have expected at least 40,000 from the life of a die.

At the moment I am suspecting it to be the works of a rouge mint employee.

Yeah I reckon it's probably mint sport - I think there are at least two of the 2014 and 2015 dollar mules but not much more, and by now we would have seen more of them.

Some more info at https://www.coincuriosity.com/view/2020-dollar-mule.html - only one known (so far). And I'm pretty sure the other mules have only come to light a couple of years after they were struck - this one was odd in that it came to light so soon.
