I got these off eBay some time ago before I was aware of MS 70. The 1899 has strong luster though I didn't show well with the photo. The 89 does as well but not as strong as the 99. Both coins look better in hand than the photos. These were freshly xylened and then rinsed with distilled water. I coming down off my oil kick and a lot of my coins look so different than they previously did. I think the patina will develop more after some time status posts xylenation process (cool word huh??:goofer
Sorry to say, but not a chance, unless you want to send it to SGS, they give everything a 70. A 70 is a perfect specimin, I don't think I have ever seen an MS70 IHC. You could go back in time and get a handfull right off the press and I bet not one of them would be 70. You got some nice coins, first glance looks like low 60's. Don't be as concerned about hitting a high grade for it getting slabbed, learn the coin, learn the grade and buy the nicest coins you can afford that fit what you are collecting, good luck!
Oh and I forgot to add, altering a coin with chemicals is a sure way to not get a MS70 grade if you think you may have a coin that is high grade leave it alone, have fun with the lower grade stuff if you want to do stuff to them.
I will give you MS-70 for effort but PCGS or NGC will body bag them! ANACS may put a grade on them but note "Altered Color" or "Cleaned" on the label. You would be better off to keep them Raw, especially if you plan to sell them. Frank
I'm not sure if you're joking or not, but he is referring to the coin cleaner/detergent, not the grade.
Sorry my post must not have been clear (I was speaking in slang). You are misunderstanding my post. Of course they would never get an MS 70. I meant that I believe these (mostly the 1899) was MS 70'd- the chemical was placed on the coin. I am not a newbe!
MS-70, the product is in the page, click it for info http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.kaymariecoin.com/images/ms70-001.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.kaymariecoin.com/index.php%3Fmain_page%3Dproduct_info%26products_id%3D476&usg=__NTMXjpGVu9bdqW6wEPhyY3EuhqY=&h=584&w=300&sz=205&hl=en&start=2&sig2=qXtxjnbcIZuBb3kwX0Qn4A&tbnid=eu8XaTOXojn9KM:&tbnh=135&tbnw=69&ei=8Y-fScKFPInaMJD7yNkL&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dms-70%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG
Ha, OK, my fault, I didn't catch that you were referring to the cleaner MS70. I thought you were asking if PCGS would grade it MS70. I was wondering how a senior member would think that.
Warning: you have now entered the twillight zone of miscommunication. You will be misinterpreted by all CT's as lost and confused. Others will try to show you the way , but you will bump into things and be confused for some time. You will eventually learn ANA grading standards with continued dilegence, practice and study. Please no more "Hey newbie Posts" I CAN'T TAKE ONE MORE SECOND:headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::bigeyes::bigeyes::bigeyes::bigeyes::bigeyes::bigeyes: Now back to my coins. Any opinons? I won't feel one bit bad if they didn't grade as I actually like their look a lot.
The problem is with your title, Will these grade at PCGS- probable MS 70? It seemed as though you were asking if PCGS would probably grade these at MS70. If it was these probably have been MS70'd, do you think PCGS will grade them? I would have gotten it. They might not catch it, could be worth sending them in for a couple of bucks. If not you are only out a few bucks and back where you started.
lol at some of you guys. I understood what he meant as soon as I saw the coins, and it's the noobs that really missed it. The 1st coin doesn't look MS-70ed, but the second one does have that look. I'd send a PM to gmarguli -- he's probably the most knowledgeable on this topic (what MS 70 does to copper) around here.
I was luckily enough to get a one on one personal seminar on MS-70 from Rick Snow, on some proof Indians.......time well spent
