Just bought a lot of tokens mostly junk but this was in it and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. It is apx 1 inch across and weighs apx. 6.1 grams. Thanks
That's a tough one. My reading, which is probably wrong in a few spots, of the lettering is: gulielmus archiepiscopus bostoniensis anno cenesimo dioeceseus felicher peralto I looked up the inscription and didn't find anything. Then I looked up 'archbishop of boston' and eventually found something relevant. Apparently the Roman Catholic Diocese of Boston was created in 1808. 1908 was the 100th anniversary. 1n 1908, the archbishop was named William (Gulielmus in latin, I guess) O'Connell. I may be wrong about this, but it's the best explanation I can come up with. Linky to article from a Catholic website. -wheatiefan
That it is, William Henry Cardinal O'Connell ,it also was his first year as archbishop(which it was made for). Nice commemorative piece.
