Lots of images from different sites but where is the close up, in focus image of the reverse of the coin in question?
Looks like DDD to me, but what do I know? I think for the TPGer to give it such a high grade, that it was looked at by many people and they would have noticed if it was DD and labeled it as such.
Don't you have to specifically submit (and therefore pay $15) to have a coin considered for a variety/error w/NGC? I know they will attribute some of the varieties with the basic fee (e.g. full steps, full torch, FBL, etc.), but others you have to pay for as these go to specialized graders who only do varieties? Just a thought...
IMHO - I would send it back to NGC paying for the variety attribution (I think it is $15 or so) - since NGC already graded it as 67-RD, I'd hate to take the chance of cracking it out, sending it to PCGS, and have the possibility of it being downgraded.
From what I can see it is not a Doubled Die R, but more flattened MachineDD so I agree with collecting nut and mountain man, JIM
@Hunting Rare, the NGC data indicate that this coin was encapsulated on 2-19-2020, but the holder pictured is not current. Did you resubmit this coin, and if so, did you request the variety attribution? Either way, it does not appear to be noted on the new holder, which makes me wonder if it is, in fact, not a DDR.
This is the same old bait and switch method he uses every time. Look up his history and previous postings. hunting rare can take good pictures until it comes time to confirm the die markers. In one of his previous threads he claims that he has a MPL Lincoln. And proclaims that @robec says that the diagnostics match, but in all reality this is what Robec said.
I already submitted to NGC for variety attribution and they sent it back without the DDR variety listed and as an SMS67RD, not even MS!. Nightmare. So I doubt I'm going to send back to NGC since they can't even get the strike correct. Coin is absolutely not a SMS!!!! Thinking about sending to PCGS as the DDR-801, and see what happens......coins die is definitely doubled on the reverse and is the FS-801.......(a rare variety with only a handful known that most people mistake for machine doubling but it is not.)
