Charles I 1a3 halfcrown with mintmark cross on steps. This is a lightweight issue, believed to have been struck between 14th August and 7th September 1626 when the weight standard was reduced from 92.75 grains per shilling to 80. Halfcrowns are much rarer than shillings for this brief issue. Sixpences are the smallest denomination where a positive attribution can be made and crowns are unknown.
This coin from the Middleham hoard (1993) with the typical colouring and surfaces as seen. Weight 13.04g instead of the normal 15g.

I started collecting these old VOC duits some years ago, and it didn't take me long to be able to recognize the coats of arms of the various provinces. Zeeland has the lion swimming across the waves.

The famous old city of Utrecht has it's own distinctive coat of arms. This one has the "child in swaddling clothes" mint mark. 1790 U VOC 1 d obv (3).JPG 1790 U VOC 1 d rev (3).JPG

And Holland. There are other provinces or city states like Overyssel, Kampen, Brabant, and I will not go into them now.

Is the theme coat of arms? If so, I can contribute one of my favorite pieces (I probably have shared it before, but I absolutely love the look of this coin)!

    I forget how this goes?
If I wanted to change the theme I would pick something from my coin?
such as left facing bust, cross or sun?

I think that if you get bored with this theme, or it sits idle for a while, you can just introduce a new one. I am too lazy to go back and look at the original post.

OK, I went back and read the OP, by none other than Lord Marcovan. "Follow the leader and see what the theme in play is. If you can post an item with that theme, then you get to post a second item of your own to start a new theme." So, here is a coat of arms (1886 H British North Borneo 1 cent) and a new theme of "cool animals", 1930 Uruguay 10 centavos with a cougar or puma. 1886 H GB-NB 1 c obv.JPG 1886 H GB-NB 1 c rev.JPG 1930 UY 10 c obv.JPG 1930 UY 10 c rev.JPG
