Sometime during the period after I went to bed last night and now, I blew past 21,000 so here is a coin for that celebration.

This is a 1821 Capped Bust, Lettered Edge Half Dollar. It was designed by John Reich. The Capped Bust Liberty style was used on a number of silver coin denominations for about 30 years.

Reich was a German immigrant who became a Mint engraver from 1807-1817 after being freed from a bond of servitude by a US Mint official. He was the first artist to consistently include the denomination in US gold and silver coins.

This coin contains .8924 silver and .1076 copper for a total weight of 13.48 grams. Just 2,943,166 were minted and no varieties are known to exist.

Another like, and unlike Micbraun above most collectors do not consider different Overton numbers to be varieties--merely different die marriages.

Although they can be varieties. Are you confused yet?

No, it makes Cents to me. Lol I was reading the Red Book at the time. Way too many Bust Halves have varieties. To me Die Marriages are different.

Actually I agree with you, there are no “major varieties” in 1825. Do I get another like now...? :)
