I've found that you can purchase a lot nice early copper coins for a reasonable prices. Even lower grade large cent can be purchased without emptying your bank account. Many have some problems but I think it adds character to these coins. I proves they were used for day to day purchases. I picked up this Irish half penny mule coin fairly cheaply considering it's age and condition.
You've just discovered Conder tokens. And they have gone up quite a bit. When I got into them seriously back in 1997 MS pieces could be easily had for under $20. Back when I first started collecting Mint Red pieces were $3, Brown uncs were $2. Circulated were 50 cents. I knew about them back than and like them, but couldn't afford the book on them. At that time, 1972, the book was $150. Just to high for an 11 year old.
