I'm new here, and new to Morgan dollars. This is a key date coin and the seller emailed me there were no bag marks or scratches. Said it was a "very nice coin".

Hard to tell butt it looks MS to me.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Also this one as well, another key date....

    1904 Morgan

I looked at the PCGS Morgan values for these two coins. They can be pretty high in low MS.

    Thanks for any help.

Well the reason I bought the 1903 S is because if it grades a 55, PCGS values it at $2,350. But I do feel those are highest possible values at PCGS .

Coin looks cleaned to me and the "S" looks funny
Might be counterfeit. Better pictures would help

World Coin Certification Service is not recognized as a high rated TPG company so any value would be a raw coin value. For an XF40 fair value is $408 ( numismedia). The photo is too fuzzy to accurately grade, but appears to be VF-XF area. It does worry me that it is only the WCCS slabbed coins he has a problem with the focus, the other coins he offers are fairly sharp. The WCCS website appears to be just a billboard ( $50 a coin).

Perhaps with a sharp photo after you get it will justify the amount paid.

    Welcome to the forum.

I should also have mentioned that he has no stated return policy, which would have prevented me from considering it along with the poor photos. Please don't take the forum's opinions badly, most of us have been through similar passage into the collector's relm. As you read and observe other threads, you will gain a tremendous amount of knowledge and enhanced buying ability. Again Welcome, and I hope to see a posting when it arrives!

That first coin looks like it was cleaned or polished. Sharp pictures would have told the story. He also has a nicely wizzed peace dollar. Ice

Yeah. Polished and maybe whizzed. That would explain there being "no bag marks"

Rule 1: Get the book first.

Rule 2: Read the threads on this board next.

Rule 3: Do NOT buy an expensive raw coin from eBay.
Rule 3.1: Especially if the images are not sharp.
Rule 3.2: Especially if it is not in a major TPG holder.

I agree with all of the above. I would be concerned about authenticity, as well as condition, if genuine. eBay has become a dumping ground for problem coins, and quite a few sellers auction fakes to the unwary. I have been burned several times, and would caution the o.p. to be extremely wary of deals that seem to be too good to be true. Please come here with questions, there are many knowledgeable collectors on this forum.
    Welcome!!

I'd say XF is a stretch, and it's been harshly cleaned. Wish you had come here before you bought it.

Sorry to tell you this coin probably will not get slabbed. You are not alone and we have all been through this. A good option would be to get your money back if possible. I would not pay more then $50 for it. File a complaint with eBay, well eBay itself is a problem .

I'd give it a EF-40 Cleaned. Also, I do believe it to be authentic, the mint mark is how it should be and I can't find anything wrong with it anywhere else. :thumb:

I'd have to agree with everyone, that you didn't get a great deal but you could have done worse. ;)

    Ribbit :)

Ps: Never pay top dollar for bad pics. :kewl:

Well I came in late but I'll add my 2cents also. I tend to agree with everyone else. the 1903 looks to have been polished. Looks genuine to me and also may be EF but just barely. The 1904 is also about EF worth about $20. I would never pay high money for a key date coin with these pics. Most times a Key Date coin is offered, the seller will show good pics for good bids. Bad pics "usually" represent a problem coin.

    First,

Welcome to the boards, you will get some fantastic advice on here and will learn a tremendous amount. I'll agree that the 03-S appears to have been cleaned. As Kanga (wisely) said, eBay is a very dangerous place to buy raw coins, particularly higher priced ones.

If it's in an ANACS, ICG, NGC or PCGS slab, it's genuine, and if not, they will buy it back from you. Of the Third Party Graders (TPGs) PCGS seems to be the one that gets the most respect and value followed closely by NGC and then by ANACS and ICG.

As a general rule, other slabs are often either notorious for overgrading or missing problems, or what we call "Self Slabbers", or a TPG that's actually owned by a dealer. These companies, the biggest seemingly is SGS, are famous for grossly overgrading items.

Well thanks a lot for all the advice and info. I feel like an idiot. Wish I would have come to this great forum before making such a high dollar purchase on a coin because of the poor photo.
