I am pretty new at collecting. I have almost the entire statehood series (except Delaware which is a little above my price range) in PF 70 UC ngc slabs. I know what everyone always says about buying the coins rather than the slabs, and I think I have done the best I can. The question I have is: Since these were purchased from various dealers and some on ebay, and since some have difference looking holders, am I able to resubmit all of them to NGC to be regraded and re-slabbed (I am hoping with the new edge-view slabs)? I see on the NGC site that you can ask for downgrade or upgrade or re=slabbing of coins but nothing says about re-grading at the same level. Mainly what I am concerned about is having bought a doctored or counterfeit coin. I did my best from what I know to make sure I was not getting ripped off, but I would like a pro to look at these just for my piece of mind. And of course so they slabs are all the same. Anyone done this before? Any help would be appreciated.
NGC will, if I recall, reholder coins already in NGC slabs for $7 eachplus shipping/handling. The TPGs do change their slab designs from time to time, hence the different NGC slabs that you have. I would not be concerned about doctored Statehood Quarters, I WOULD worry about doctored bust coinage in slabs.
First, I sincerely doubt that there are any counterfeit state quarters out there. I would not rule out counterfeit slabs, but I think they would also be doubtful. Yes, NGC will reslab (aka reholdered) them for $5 each. And I believe that all holders are now the edge view. However, you get stuck with the shipping which could be as much or more than the $5 each. To have them regraded, you pay their current grading price ($12.50 each). You can see all the prices here; http://www.ngccoin.com/services/services.asp. Just remember, you still pay shipping and it is a lot more than you think. I don't know where you live, but it would pay you to take these to a show where NGC shows up anywhere in your area. That would save you shipping one way anyway.

There are no switched out or counterfeit coins in your slabs - nobody would spend the time for these type coins, IMO. I mean what are your alternatives - pay a bunch of money to get them all looking the same way and in the exact same designed slab? My advice - now remember you asked for it - would be to take that same money and spend it on really rare coins or guilds to help you learn that these type coins in these type grades are virtually common as the day is long and not ever sell-able for what you may have tied up in them. Now don't take offence - I hate TPG companies. But I do deal with dozens of large coin dealers each month and if you brought that set in to them they would not even want to buy it at virtually any price like you may imagine - and that's all my dealers, some of the biggest in the south. I would not be doing you justice if I did not tell you this - the coins you are talking about will one day be worth only a fraction of what you paid. Now guys don't jump all over me - this is just my advice - I certainly could be wrong.
