    This problem coin came to me by a friend that didn't want it. The reverse has scratches but I'm wondering about the dark area over the NT in CENT. (Environmental damage) Should I try Acetone? What do you think it is? It almost looks burnt.

    Thanks

    I would leave it just the way it is.

    Two things I can say;
    Acetone will not touch that. It is good for PVC and other organics.
    See http://www.cointalk.com/forum/t47934/ and ask yourself if you really want to do anything.

    The only way to get that off that I can think of might kill the coin but I will say it anyway.
    Use something like vinegar and baking soda :eek: to clean it and turn it into a nasty unnatural pinkish orange color than use dellars darkener to retone it. I am not sure if that would work but it is the only thing that I can think of. :eek:
    Let me warn you though that would destroy the coins value but it may remove the black "burnt" spot.
    I would not do that unless you are really bored and want that spot removed. Let me repeat myself, I would not recommend doing that.

    Thanks for your thoughts. I think I'll keep it as is, in the spirit it was given to me.
