The Royal Mint has issued a quarter sovereign. This is the first coin of it's kind other than some patterns minted in Victorian times which were not issued to the public.

I'm certainly looking forward to getting my hands on one of these!

Interesting that the Royal Mint is issuing a small gold coin (it's small -- two grams!) while the US Mint is giving up on them.

I haven't done the math but it seems to be a fairly high premium over the gold value. It's limited to 10,000 mintage per the RM site so it seems to be sold at least partially as a numismatic item.

Nice though... wait until Thalia Elizabeth sees it as it meets two of her criteria :D

    Basically a 1/4 sov is 5/- (or a crown).
The Royal mint is just cashing in on the price of gold.

For many years now the Royal Mint has been cashing in on the fact that fools like me will buy coins that were never intended for circulation.

I'm not complaining, I like gold coins. :)

I dont mind buying the silver proofs and the Unc in folers but I think I might just draw the line at this one

The price has gone up a little bit on this one. I guess if I want more gold coins I'd best buy them whilst I can still afford them.

The alternative is to wait, with the hope that the price of gold will fall.
