Still a few more hours to left if you want to make a bid 1969-S Lincoln Cent Doubled Die Obverse https://www.greatcollections.com/Coin/910572
I'll guess the coin will get close to $50,000. In a 64 holder the price could double. Only a 10% buyers fee. Fun to watch coins like this.
but a 1856 Proof 65 Flying eagle cent all in sold for less that $21,000.00 I would rather have that FE
I don't think I've spent that much combined for all the vehicles I've owned in my lifetime . . . . And I've been driving since 1975 . . . . Z
The backstory on that is wonderful, and I was watching the auction (NOT bidding!) and hoping for a good return. ICYMI, an honest dealer (whose name is as yet not public - although I'm hoping it will be revealed) bought this coin in a mass purchase, and returned it to the seller when he realized what it was. https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-coins/1969-s-ddo-cent-surfaces-in-hoard-sold-by-a-collector
This coin was found in a bulk lot of Lincoln cents purchased by a dealer, returned to the seller and the dealer didn't want any publicity or notoriety for his good deed. https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-coins/week-s-most-read-valuable-1969-s-doubled-die-cent-found EDIT: BikerGeek posted his reply much quicker. LOL
I known that the 1969 S only had minted about 259,000 coins and it is Double Die Obverse, but for about $49,000. As mentioned above, I would rather have the 1856 FE or gold for that matter. But coin collecting hobby is about getting the special coin that fit into a set or having something that few people have. I guess I haven't caught the fever yet. I like to be able to collect a set than spending that kind of money that was spent on the 1969 S (or s). Anywho, congratulation to the buy AND the seller.
I have the fifty-cents, can anybody loan me the other forty-eight thousand. No offers, I guess I got lost in the crowd... Happy and safe holidays to all.
Well, you know I was trying to downplay that aspect of my interdimensional homeboy self, but a shape shifters gotta shift . . . . I'll disavow any knowledge of this conversation so I won't have to neuralize you . . . . Z
